Default Joomla andWebsite Hosting Template editing problem

I have installed Joomla through cPanelX and uploaded an extra template.

I'm unable to edit any files on my machine and the upload them to the folder on the server. I get "permission errors"
The folders show the owner as "99" and I can't change those.

There are 2 templates supplied with the installation of Joomla and they donot have this problem.

Thanks

You must have uploaded those templates using Joomla and thats the reason it has got permission of Apache on it. It wont allow you to modify those templates so you will need to contact our support team from our helpdesk http://support.eukhost.com and ask our staff members to make necessary changes on permission and ownership of those templates.

Joomla is a funny and stressful thing to work with sometimes. I used to use it on one of my website hostings but got fed up of it and decided to hand code it myself.

Unhappy

I've been experiencing the same issues and I got totally jarred off with it all. Fortunately I spoke to one of the guys on their support desk and they suggested that I move my account to a server that has PHPsuexec enabled.

Apparently this should resolve the issue so if anyone is having the same problems, all you need to do is submit a ticket from your registered email.

Agree with David.

Joomla is "supposed" to be an easily editable CMS, but in my experiance with it, its just been a complete nightmare.

I dont think its worth the hassle.

not sure if you have tried Drupal or Siteframe but I have heard good things about Drupal and Siteframe is also quite popular.

Joomla problems will get sorted once their new version is released which will be purely FTP based.

I've got to say that apart from the permissions issues (and they have been a nightmare!) the rest of the Joomla system works brilliantly for what I need. The support network is fantastic and the product is very stable.

I found even simple things like changing the banner and getting the dimensions right to be a hard task which I gave up on in the end!

Likewise, David.

Hope everything is going well for you, James, but I also for the moment, have given up on Joomla for now. Its something I will go back to in order to learn, but its not a priority just at the moment.

I had a client recently who wanted to update their own website hosting and add/upload pictures to it.

I thought Joomla would be the way forward for this, but ended up banging my head off a brick wall when it came to getting it up and running.

I ended up going with their current website hosting, adding a Coppermine gallery and installing Adobe Contribute on the clients PC to allow them to manage the content they wanted to.

Just my take on it thus far, but Joomla/Drupal and other CMS's is something I want to learn about in the future, the above methods I used just managed to get me and the customers required results.

What you did seems to be a perfect solution. When you need a photo gallery then install coppermine. If you need a blog then install wordpress. If you need a forum then choose phpbb3.

This kind of setup is better than messing up with a CMS.
