I've been on shared hosting for less than a year, and have not been hugely impressed by eukhost's "start a fire and then put it out quickly" approach (see my other posts). I don't believe any "100% uptime" claims, so I'm not sure that spending more money on eukhost would actually be of benefit. It's a confidence thing (i.e: my consumer confidence in eukhost as a company is quite low).
And if I needed "my own server", then I'd have my own server.
As I've mentioned earlier that you should try some other expensive hosts this year. Try all those and we will welcome you again in 2009

The 100% uptime is guarenteed as it uses mirroring and checks for faults with the primary server switching to the secondary server as soon as there is a fault.

And as you say, you haven't had any problems recently so it 'may' have just been an unfortunate series of events. Either way, I can say that the support elsewhere (I have been with several hosts) is miles behind that of eUKhost which is why even when I've had issues I've battled through them. Support might get sick of me on livechat and email but the problem always gets sorted.

I have experience of 2 other hosting companies.
I left my last one to come to eukhost not because of technical problems - I never had any - It was just that they upgraded their packages for new customers but continued to charge me a higher rate. Customer support was pretty mediocre.
With my first hosts, again no technical issues but support was terrible.

I suppose its swings and roundabouts - With eukhost, something breaks once a month, but support usually fix it quickly. Other hosting companies have less technical problems but poor support! Not exactly a glowing reference for the hosting industry, is it?

If that's the choice from commercial hosts, then I think my best bet would be to nab a little bit of free webspace somewhere and use some free gmail addresses. Just waiting to see how the latest glitch is resolved!

I've also tried free hosts and they're a nightmare..... Email is fine on a free service but with hosting when anything goes wrong or even a little thing you need, it can be over a week to get anything done. By the time one free hosts support team had replied to me, I'd already migrated away from them because I needed my site back online!

Having been the administrator of a Free cPanel Web Host - I know exactly what happens.

Support requests take over a week to be replied to - and often with not very good answers.

Free hosts have no or an ineffective way of income, so they close down within a year Guaranteed
