Default No support for punicode ?

I am trying to set up a punicode domain via Cpanel as an addon domain but am running into problems.

I cannot create a domain in anything but ASCII meaning that the domain only appears expaneded, in this case: xn--li-4ja dot com

this means that anyone can reach my domain by typing óli.com but it will resolve to www dot xn--li-4ja dot com rather than www dot óli dot com which is it has to be said, a bit pointless.

Is there a way around this ?

PS. The URL autocompletion feature of this forum shuld be turned off by default ?
What is the point of having a techical support forum for a hosting company that does not allow you to post urls ?

Hello,

The Cpanel do not support direct International Character in domain name.
You will need to convert the domain to punycode and then create the account.
You can use a NameISP Tool or any other similar tool for the conversion.

I'm not sure about the cPanel issue but if I'm not mistaken the browser is supposed to render your domain like xn--li-4ja.com due to security issues (phishing scams for example). So regardless of how cPanel accepts it, your domain will still look weird on the browsers that have that feature (such as the latest version of Firefox).

I have already done that as I explained in the original post. in fact I spelled the converted punycode out in that post, have created an account using the punycode, but the account does resolve as punicode, in all browsers, it is supposed to resolve as UTF8.

And yes Cpanel and WHM have regressed their support for UTF8's, this was not a problem 4 years ago...... strange.

but that is neither here nor there, if I do it as you suggest the domain resolves as xn--li-4ja dot com, I want it to resolve to óli dot com, this is possible elswhere, I have been hosting punicode domains on multipile sites for years, and if is difficult to understand why it is desiarable imagne your makerting efforts if your domain resolved as zy--ukhost--e7uryt dot com.

No it is supposed to render it in 8 bit unicode or failing that ISO, all modern browsers have supported it since 2002 or earlier with the exception of IE that did so via a plugin until IE7.

A lot of punicode domains are rosolving as punicode due to incorrect setup, since there was a rush of American cybersquatters that bought up a lot of common accented names by googling for specific accented characters and buying up the most popular results, and these invariably resolve incorrectly, perhaps since USA keyboards have no extended character support, making working with accented characters difficult.

Think about it like this. if a domain name resolves to another name without an owner intervention like redirection it is pointless. I.e. if ibm dot com resovled to microsoft dot com you might get confused right ? We might as well go back to the 80s and start using net addresses again.
