Problem with Fantastico and WWW ?
Hi all
Not sure if I am on the right track.. but here goes!!
I am trying to install Joomla with Fantastico. All seems to go well, except when the install is finished, it tells me that the url is:
http://mydomain.com
Now shouldn't this be:
http://www.mydomain.com ??
The reason I ask is from that point on, the entire website hosting, URL's etc all run without the WWW in the url, and I am sure this is messing up cookies / security within Joomla....
Please advise.

This won't mess anything up. It's all designed to work with and without www.

The reason I ask is because I have been struggling with Joomla for a couple hours now...
I've just found a post with the exact same problem!!
Issues with joomla Hosting
Basically, I edit some content, and it redirects me back to homepage, without editing content!!
I wondered if it was something to do with the way Joomla was switching between URL's, some with WWW and some without...
Can someone please fix the redirect for me in the same way as they did for this guy??
Thanks!

Hello Murdo,
Yes, the mod_security module really affects the working of Joomla & many such applications. The most common problem is that when ever you try to edit some stuff within the application, you are redirected to the home page. Now we have disabled the mod_security module for your domain www.typhoonukhost.com which should fix your issue.
Please get back to us if you need any more assistance.

It is still doing the exact same thing. When I login to admin, click save... it redirects back to my homepage....

The reason your domain works without the www is because the server is set up for it to work with or without the www.
The problems with Joomla are completely seperate and as has been mentioned are due to the mod_security rules.
Hope everything is going good for you now .

Yes, as I have already said, all working now, and I realise it was a problem with mod_security and joomla, as I discovered in the other post i linked to.

If you want you can disable mod_security from your .htaccess file using following code :-
Code:
<IfModule mod_security.c>
SecFilterEngine Off
SecFilterScanPOST Off
</IfModule>
