Default Sending Email Newsletters

Hi,

One of the features I have been asked to include in the website hosting I am designing is sending Newsletters to registered members of the website hosting. Although the user base will be very limited - eg there is a manual process by administrators to validate the user to use the website hosting - there will still be 1000+ users. I currently have about 300 users registered.

What I would like to achieve is administrators of the website hosting to upload the newsletter and then click a button that will automatically send individual emails to all the users notifying them of the new newsletter - for example it will loop through all users and send single emails to them. This will happen monthly.

Is there any restrictions in place that will stop me from doing this. If so, can you suggest another way performing this function?

Thanks

Adam.

What programming language are you looking to use?

Hi,

I'm using ASP.net 2. I have already created the code to allow me to do this and have tested it with limited users.

I do not want to use it with my full user base just in case there are other server restrictions that will cause the admins to disable the website hosting or email sending, for example.

Thanks

Adam.

There aren't any mail limits with ASP or .NET.

Yes this is correct. As long as it doesn't look like spamming activity your account won't be disabled.

Even if I send out over 1000 in one go? I hope so.

Could one of the admins confirm this please.

Thanks

The one thing they are tough on is spam - so I would confirm it with them anyway just so there is no misunderstanding about the intentions of the emails .

Hi Guys,

Just had a response from a ticket I posted - here is the offical response:

Quote:
Hello,

As you are using the newsletter to send mails directly from the website hosting,it would be better if you send the mails in batches that is say 40-50 mails an hour(for every hour a particular batch runs).

Sending mails at one time to more than 1500+ registered users would definately cause your domain to be disabled/suspended.
I am now looking into local SMTP servers that can be used for mass-mailing.

Thanks

No problem - its interesting to know that. I did think it might cause a problem or two as firstly it would put a lot of strain on the mail server all at one time and secondly it might look like spamming activity.

Good luck with your search .
