Server down, again?
It would seem that server 97.117.201.122 is down yet again!
Can anyone please check a few of my 47 website hostings that I have hosted there.
www.westreesawmills.co.uk
www.thenailworkshop.co.uk
www.visitshaftesburydorset.co.uk
and 44 others!
Eukhost have told me it's a hard drive failure, frankly i don't believe them as this server went down two weeks ago with the same hard drive failure excuse being used, anyone out there know what is truthfully going on?

Probably a hard drive failue - they are common with really dodgy hard drives. eUKhost have been notified about this error and will correct it ASAP.
Anyway, eUKhost doesn't own 97.117.201.122, it's 87.117.201.122

I would assume that eUKhost are not using 'dodgy hard drives' being a reputable company - hard drive failure 2 weeks after a replacement is a bit excessive and definitely not common.
Is it only me that finds this concerning?

Sorry yes that was a 'typo' I meant 87.117.201.122, it will be interesting to see how long the server is out of action, I am in one of my offices in Wales and am setting up a Windows 2003 Server. I started the load at 10:07 I reckon I'll have it up and running with all the packages loaded by 1pm and I'm not a full time network engineer!

They may not be aware it was dodgy. Loads of hard drives fail everywhere all the time.

Have you not been able to recieve an ETA so far? Normally support are very efficient so it should be up and running in no time at all .

Good quality hardware isn't. And 2 hard drives in as many weeks - is excessive you'll agree.
In my 13 years of using well over 100 computers I have had one hard drive failure - on a computer that was 7 years old! Granted this is different but surly replacing a hard drive every week isn't economical!!

We are reloading this server with Plesk Control panel. Server is not allowing us to login as it gets rebooted before one can enter Administrator access information.
Server has been victim of LSASS hijack and there is no solution to fix this problem without OS reload. We will start restoring all accounts manually once the reload has been completed.

That sounds more reasonable. I do still wonder why people pointlessly do this to servers - it ought to be criminalised and more easily traceable and accountable.
Good luck with the server restore (eUKhost would have been really unlucky to have 2 HDD failures in 2 weeks - I would have had to send you a four leaf clover! )

Lsass hijack?
Hmm,
Various Lsass vulnerabilities were addressed in Microsoft Security Updates as far back as August 2004, whilst I would accept that this is possibly what has happened, the most famous lsass attack, that of the Sasser worm did not require a reload of the OS and the shutting down can be prevented by using the cmd shutdown -A.
I will give Eukhost the benefit of the doubt here and wish them a speedy reload.
I have loaded a Windows 2003 server this morning in my office in Cardigan, it took 47 minutes to load from the Windows 2003 master CD's and I am now installing the Microsoft secuirty patches, prior to loading the various components such as ASP Email, Asp Jpeg and Asp Upload. I will then restore the backup of the customer's data my eta is still 1pm. I hope Eukhost are just as quick.
I and my customers wait in anticipation.

I imagine the reload might be occuring as it might not be the only way to solve the problem but it might be the fastest way to solve it rather than trying to clean up the mess it has made .

Nine hours and still down, I don't know about the rest of the users but last time I checked this server was hosting in excess of 230 website hostings so all of those are now down not a good advertisment for Eukhost. No replies to my support tickets either. I am getting seriously annoyed at the time it is taking to resolve this problem. I registered 3 new domains yesterday for a customer and put these on this server in order that they could be uploaded ready for the customer coming into his office on Monday to start entering data, these website hostings are bespoke CMS systems for Health and Safety in the building industry. This same customer was beta testing these website hostings on the 28th August when the server died for almost 48 hours, I ask myself what will he be thinking about the reliability of service? I have recently purchased a server at Uk2.net and I am going to order a 2nd and start migrating my website hostings away from Eukhost, and will just use Eukhost for beta testing as it does not seem robust enough to cope with the commercuial website hostings we develop.

I am sure that someone will respond to this thread shortly to put your mind at rest. Did you send your ticket to support@eukhost.com?

Got automated receipt of support ticket several hours ago, then nothing, I note you are a premium member of the forum, how many website hostings have you got hosted with Eukhost? I had initially (Start of 2007) been impressed with their service but over the last 4 weeks I've had numerous 'outages' and as I said on 28th August the whole server was down for almost 48 hours and it looks like it's going to be another similar situation this time. I phoned support this morning and was told, erroneously as it would appear, that the hard drive had failed and it would be 10 hours before the server was back up, this was exactly the reply given to me on 28th august when I phoned.

There's no ETA right now as it can take less than 1 hour for us to bring all website hostings online or it can take another day. I am waiting for a solution as our Windows System Admins are trying their best right now.

We apologize for the inconvenience which has been caused due to this troubled server.
Server was running weekly backups in the morning when Windows security updates were automatically installed on the server and suddenly the lsass.exe error was shown on the screen which said that the server will be rebooted in next 40 seconds and the server failed to boot.
The server did not respond after several reboots. KVM was connected to start investigation which gave message that lsass.exe was corrupt and needed to be fixed. We tried running few fixes with no success.
We had to remove the complete SP2 security pack from the server in the Safe Mode and then it was reinstalled, which did repair the lsass.exe problem but all Network services failed to start after reboot.
Before we were on the verge to opt for OS reload but we decided to check the logs just before the server went down which clearly said that Windows had updated itself and installed "microsoft.private.security.spyware" which had blocked all the connections to the server.
After removing the updates from the machine and disabling the firewall the server came in network.
We also had to edit few permissions in the registry to allow the "NETWORK SERVICE" to access IIS Web Server ADMIN and Remote Procedure Call service.

Glad its all sorted now - if you are still experiencing problems Graham feel free to reply to this thread again.
In relation to your question I currently have many website hostings hosted at eUKhost, the majority on my own server and one on a shared server here and am very happy thus far .
