Default Setting up email accounts for my domain names: Help req!!

Hi folks,

I'm not really sure where to start with this question, so stay with me on this one.

On a few of the website hostings I have hosted here, when it comes to email links such as "Click here to email/Contact Us" etc, I have set up redirects so that all email goes to the individuals personal email account such as this:-

http://www.firstdriving.co.uk/Contac...20Driving.html

I'm using my fathers driving school website hosting as an example.

The link is obviously mailto:billwood@firstdriving.co.uk within the site's code.

This has been set up so that anyone clicking on that to contact him can do so.

However.......when he replies, it comes back from his actual email address at BT. Not from billwood@firstdriving.co.uk.

This is not a HUGE issue for him, but for another website hosting I have hosted here, the client wants me to set up email for him so that rather than replies coming back once he is emailed through the redirect from his Yahoo email account which the redirect is pointed at, it actually comes back from his website hosting domain name if you know what I mean?.

So rather than someone attempting to contact enquiries@indagatio.co.uk and then getting a reply from indagatioscotland@yahoo.co.uk they get a reply from enquiries@indagatio.co.uk

Know what I mean?.

I'm assuming to do this I need to set up email for them in Outlook, which I very rarely use.

Hope someone can point me in the right direction and assist with some details on how to set this up.

As I said, I very rarely use Outlook, so I'm not sure where to start.

Had a look in my CPanel at the email section, but I'm not getting anywhere with it so far.

Thank you very much in advance for any advice and assistance.

Gary.

I would strongly recommend that you set up all the accounts in an email client, such as Outlook or Thunderbird (I use thunderbird as a personal preference - I think it is easier and more effective but this is just my opinion - use what you are comfortable with).

Then set up all the seperate accounts in your email client (In thunderbird you go to Settings --> Accounts --> Add Account). If you do this then you can select from a drop down menu which email address you want the email to be sent from.

This is hundreds time easier than what you seem to want to do and I would recommened this way to be used as it is by far the easier option and means you can still check all your emails in one place (the email client) from all email addresses added to it.

The system that you are currently using seems to be overcomplicated when it doesn't need to be.

Hope that helps .

Nope, I'm still lost m8......

If you get time, could you explain in a little more detail what you mean?.

I'm using Outlook, I dont have Outlook Express installed just now.

I thought there may be some way to do all this via the cPanel Email settings for each domain name/website?.

I need my client that the website hosting was hosted for to be able to access the email sent to him and reply in the manner in my initial post.

I will go back to banging my head off the desk for a bit..........seems to help.....lol....!!!.

The only way i can think is, currently you have the bt email setup in Outlook as default also when you reply to the email in the top corner there is a button that says accounts, click it and it should show a drop down list and select that email you want it to show up as.

Do you have it setup as a real email not as a forwarder, so you can check your emails via http://www.yoursite.url:2095 or do you have it set as, when you get a email to

email@domain.com it gets sent to another email such as your personal one.

Thanks,
Hope this helped

I have just had another idea.

You could set up a forwarder email address which in one of your examples would be billwood@firstdriving.co.uk then send the reply to this email address from the real email address (the bt address) to this forwarder which then if configured properly can forward the email to the intended recipient.

Forwarders can be set up in cPanel in the E-mail section .

Hello,

From what you have specified, it seems the problem may arise when the email address on the domain is forwarded to a Yahoo address. Hence, we the recipient replies, the email comes from the Yahoo address instead of the domain. So, if you forward an email address on the domain to another address, the replies will not go from the domain address but from the forwarded address itself.

The best possible solution is to set up the domain email address in Outlook where the email is actually received so that replies are sent from that email address rather than a forwarded email. As far as cPanel is concerned, there is'nt any option to change an outside email address to the domain email address.

Regards,

For your father's example it seems you haven't set up an Email Account for his domain in Outlook, i.e. billwood@firstdriving.co.uk — he's just using his ISP address to answer any messages that arrive for 'First Driving' because I presume you forward them to his BT mailbox? If you create another Outlook email account for him (for the 'First Driving' domain), when creating or replying to a message in Outlook that has more than one account configured, you have an [Accounts] button next to the [Send] button and you use it to choose which account to send from, which will control how a reply-to message is addressed in the outgoing headers. The default outgoing address (if you forget to select one) will be the default email account set in Outlook, which is presumably the BT one? It's easy to change them around if that's what you require. Note: you may have to use the BT SMTP server for outgoing messages, rather than the domain mailserver — I'm not familiar enough with BT to know whether they block you using SMTP servers other than their own.

For the second example, I'm not sure if I misunderstood what you've written? By writing 'redirect' do you mean he has a Forwarder set to deliver all mail arriving at his domain to go to Yahoo? Anyway, providing your client uses Outlook to POP from and SMTP to Yahoo, all you have to do in Outlook's Menu is (and this is for Outlook 2003 but they're all fairly similar):
  • Tools >
  • Email Accounts... >
  • Select [Radio Button] 'View or change existing email accounts', then click [Next] >
  • Select the Mail Account name from the listing - by default Outlook would name it after the POP server, like pop3.ispmailserver.com but you may have renamed it, or you're using the mailserver associated with the domain you host? Anyway, click [Change...] >
  • Click [More Settings...] >
  • Select 'General' tab - the page contains the Mail Account name (which is where you'd find 'pop3.ispmailserver.com' (or whatever), then it has two other fields: 'Organization' and 'Reply-to Address' >
  • Enter 'enquiries@indagatio.co.uk' in 'Reply-to Address' >
  • Select [OK], [Next], [Finish] to complete the changes.
Every time his default mail account is used to create/send an email it will then set the Reply-to Address correctly in the mail headers.

If you don't want to set that Reply-to Address for every outgoing message, just ones that are pertinent to Indagatio, you can leave the Reply-to Address window blank and BEFORE SENDING, when you're in the Message Editor (the Outlook one, not Microsoft Word as the editor) go to the Menu > View > Options > Look for Delivery Options halfway down that window > Tick the 'Have replies sent to:" tickbox and type 'enquiries@indagatio.co.uk' in the adjacent window > [Close] > [Send].

I don't think you can do this automatically by creating a Rule for outgoing messages that match certain criteria, then have a Reply-to address set - certainly not with any of the default actions available.

A quick clarifaction about Outlook email accounts. Replies are sent by default using the account that recieved the email. So create billwood@firstdriving.co.uk in cpanel and setup that account in Outlook (there is an option in cpanel to d/load config settings - but in my experience to get that to work you need to d/load the settings for outlook express and then when you next start Outlook it will pick up the outlook express settings). Do a similar thing for your other domain and all should be well

Thanks for the suggestions guys, I'm still stuck though.

I've set up the email's in my cPanel.

Now when I get to trying to set up Outlook, thats where I'm falling over.

Tried the auto configure option from cPanel for Outlook but first of all, I dont know what one to use ( I'm using Outlook 2007 ) and secondly, when I try and use any of them, there's a message pops up saying "If asked to run, save etc, choose run" or something similar.

When I choose "Run" all that happens is a text box pops up with the settings contained within. I then open Outlook up and nothing has changed in there with no sign of any set up email accounts for the ones in my cPanel.

Tried configuring it manually and eventually after many goes, got one up and running ( or so it would appear ).

However, when I try sending any email from it to another email address, nothing happens. I have also tried sending email to the newly set up email address in Outlook, but again, nothing - no email arrives.

The guy who wants the Indagatio email address sorted has been at me again this morning to see how I was getting on with it as he needs it ASAP. I told him I was still working on it but I'm still totally baffled by it all.

My own silly fault for not ever bothering to use Outlook much at all since I began fiddling around with computers years ago.

Hello,

As you are using Outlook for sending emails, make sure that you have used your

Incoming mail server : mail.firstdriving.co.uk
Outgoing mail server : mail.firstdriving.co.uk

Also make sure that you have created separate identity for billwood@firstdriving.co.uk in your outlook. If all these are perfect then your emails should forwarded properly.

I seem to have worked it out.

Got a couple of them up and running in Outlook no problem now.

Thanks for all the assistance fellas, cheers once again!!!.

One thing I noticed is that when you configure the mail client in the control panel, it gives you the manual settings to enter, but for some reason the Mail Server Username has a "+" in it instead of "@", e.g. enquiries+indagatio.co.uk.

Why is that?. Had to change the "+" to "@" within the Outlook settings to get it to work.

That is standard with a lot of email settings. All my email address usernames have + rather than @. I think it is due to the way the mail servers are set up.
