my site on cpanel shared linux hosting went down about 3.30pm today and is still spiking on and off at 4.41pm (now)

Nothing about this was posted by euk so would be good to know who else had a problem

Your IP was blocked on server firewall. I have un-blocked it from the firewall.
You may confirm same with following logs;

Ive had quite a few problems with EUK but not many in the last month... must say that this time it was handled well and even got a call which helped me feel that something really was being done.

Still not sure why my ip was blocked... i definately was not doing anything with ftp.. infact i was just keeping an eye on my sales so refreshing pages every few minutes or so. I only have one internet connection so it was not someone else on the same ip neither. Can you shed any light on what caused this? Something sinister?

Your IP was removed from deny list of firewall, so there's no way for me to check why it was blocked. Ralf might have seen the exact message which he will let you know tomorrow.
