Default Spam Assassin not scoring SPAM

Hi,
Over the past few days I have been hit by loads of SPAM on my email accounts.

Spam Assassin is set at 5.00 but the headers on the subject emails show that Spam Assassin is scoring them at 0.00 so they are getting through.

The types of e-mail now getting through are the well known types that are quite obviously spam, but they are not now getting blocked whereas they were up to a few days ago.

Have you changed your settings - or is SPAM Assassin not working properly?

Mike

Hello Mike,

I've made some changes on the server to sort this problem. please verify and let me know if those have worked for you.

Default SPAM Getting through

I think there is now less Spam, but I am still getting about a dozen spam emails a day getting through - 60 over the Bank Holiday period to one account.

On the subject of spam, how do I block spam that has no "From" address and seems to have most of its header information removed?

Hi guys.

I've just spoken to the people at eUKhost and they've told me that they're upgrading Spam Assassin to the latest version so this should fix the problems.

Fingers crossed!!!

Thanks for the info james. Sounds good - I have had some problems with setting Spam Assassin rules recently so hopefully this may fix that as well .

Have you reported your issues to eUKhost? I'm on the cPanel Shared Hosting account and they had to roll back my cPanel theme from 11 to X to improve the spam filters (ironic hey?) because there was a bug in the theme that caused them to fail (?)

It's a shame that there isn't a 'central' email account for spam mail that we can all send stuff to so the filters can learn about the types of spam messages that we are receiving - it works great for my ISP.. if I get any spam, just forward it to them and the spam filter learns it.

Regards
James

You could send reports to the makers of Spam Assassin. I'm sure they have a reporting facility for exactly the type of thing you have mentioned .

SpamAssassin has got Bayes rules integrated with it which are updated by cpanel with every new updates released by them. We cannot customize this rules but we have integrated our custom spam protection scripts on our cpanel servers which manages to delete close to 95% of spams.

spam volume cannot be reduced below 5% as that gets very close to the genuine emails. Most important method of tagging some emails as spams is to lookup sender IP in spamcop and spamhaus RBL's. close to 80% spam is filtered with spamcop and spamhaus RBL's.

What feature you have with your ISP is not sufficient to stop spams as spammers keep on changing content of their spams and IPs of their spamming servers every other week so loosing so much time daily is not worth as spams will never stop permanently just by reporting spams to ISP / Hosting company.
