Sporadic email problem

I have been having a strange problem where the POP server is unavailable (I have a shared hosting account on typhoon.eukhost.com) for anywhere from a minute to an hour. The STMP server is available at this time.

The problem started about 3 days ago, and happens randomly throughout the day.

I am using Apple Mail, and have used the connection doctor to confirm no POP connection but STMP is OK.

Anyone else having similar problems?

Any ideas?

Typhoon server has been facing several problems over the past few days. From what I understand, those problems were being caused by accounts overloading the server; Typhoon is the Linux server which is currently being filled, and when it's been finished being filled support will weed out the bad accounts. I don't know whether these 'bad accounts' could be causing the problems you are facing.

Your best bet would be to open a ticket with support@eukhost.com, or open a live chat directly from the eUKhost website.

Thanks for the info. I had opened a ticket - the response that I recieved was that my email account was working using a test account (a thoroughly useless response since I made it clear that the fault was happening sporadically.)

Sadly you seem to have better information than the customer support. I wonder why they were unable to give a useful response to the ticket...

I suppose putting all new accounts on typhoon also explains why it is currently being blacklisted by AOL email servers (I am trying to get this resolved through EUKhost).

If I were you I would have a try at sending your email through the SMTP server provided by your ISP, since Typhoon's IP has obviously been blacklisted.

If typhoons IP has been blocked by AOL then there must have been an account on there at one time that was abusing its email privileges (especially with regard to AOL email addresses).

When it is filled AOL will probably consider removing the block on typhoons IP as there should be no bad accounts left on there.
