Subdomain hosting problem
I have created a subdomain test2.talinmedia.co.uk, but I can't view it here on my browser. I can see it using a web proxy, but not directly. I created it yesterday, so dns should have propagated ok, and I have flushed my own dns. Anyone know how I determine whats going on?

It seems to be your local machine browser cache, as you can see it using proxy server. I will suggest you to try it using any other browser or delete the browser cache and give a try. Hope this help

No, it doesn't.. It might be caused by my company's proxy server, but how can I find out?
This the error I get which suggests its my company's proxy server:
Technical Information (for support personnel)
* Error Code 11001: Host not found
* Background: This error indicates that the gateway could not find the IP address of the website hosting you are trying to access. This is usually due to a DNS-related error.
* Date: 20/06/2007 10:28:57
* Server: proxy.mycompanydomain.local
* Source: DNS error
Why does it do this?

Can you view the original domain (yourdomainhere.com) without any problems through your company proxy?

What I don't understand is if I create an addon domain, which creates a subdomain eg addon.mydomain.com, then I can see that straigtht away??

Your subdomain works fine on my end as well. It seems to be some sort of DNS cache and to get it cleared you will need to stay away from opening this subdomain in browser for next one hour.

Yes, works fine here as well. Maybe there is something wrong with the cache not clearing on the computer you are trying to access it from / your company network?

Can someone explain how it all works. Why might my local proxy not update itself with these subdomains, yet it does with addon domains? Any ways I can confirm whats happening?

http://www.goheer.com/products/tcptraceroute/
You can install tcptraceroute from this link and perform traceroute using this tool. Let me know the results for traceroute on your subdomain.

so there's a problem with the DNS server you are using right now. If you are using windows then try to change your DNS settings from the network configuration wizard. Stop and Restart your network service and hopefully the problem will disappear with new DNS settings.
Such sort of problems are really frustrating for both sides.

do ping lookup for yahoo and google and use their IP address. You can use IP of the server as well.

At least it works fine for you at home. Hopefully you will be able to sort out the problem you have at work when you are there tommorow. But if you can't come back to this thread and we will see how we can help you!

I would love to know what the specific problem is. Obviously my local work proxy has a problem with those kind of sub domains, but why?

its difficult to say why as your location and our location is different. If you can provide us with access to same proxy then maybe we can find the reason but I don't think that anyone else would be allowed to use proxy network in your office.

I have set my DNS server to be the same as google.co.uk's ip address, unfortunatly it doesn't work. I can access website hostings (albeit slowly), but still can't access test2.talinmedia.co.uk... boohoo
