TYPO3 Hosting :: Server settings
My website hosting has gone down the pan again. Typo3 is dead, images aren't loading and my Classifieds sections is trying to do a reinstall.
Anything been changed today on Viking? It was all working this morning, no changes on my end, now all messed up.
About to open a support ticket, but I wondered what's been fiddled with this time?

Thanks for the quick response, please take a look at the following places on my website hosting.
barrowaydrove.org/typo3 <--- talking about a safe mode restriction
barrowaydrove.org/classifieds <----- this was a working classifieds section, I refreshed items for sale on it this morning and now it's trying to do a reinstall
barrowaydrove.org/4image <----- images aren't loading or 404, I have checked in FTP and all looks like they are on the server.
No changes at the file level through FTP for a couple or more weeks and all was working this morning. I am in the habit of checking the website hosting a few times a day now.

All fixed. Got to hand it to tech support they are quick on the ball.
PHP safe mode was the culprit, turn it on and the website hosting goes
Hopefully it can stay safely turned off on my website hosting (pun intended).
Tim
p.s. on a side note. Can we please please please have a section on the website hosting (this website hosting not mine) of configuration changes made to the servers. If we know changes have been made to the server configurations we can make more informed ticket requests. First and foremost question "what have you changed before it stopped working"

Glad to see you got it all fixed.
A list of configuration changes could be useful for self diagnosis but I am unsure on whether it would be possible for eUKhost to list all these changes.

I was back up and running. Now I can't connect to the server at all.
It times out eventually.

Have you recontacted support?
It could be just a temporary problem hopefully that will rectify itself in a few minutes .

Well I was able to ping Viking before I opened a new ticket. Now I can't, presumably it's just gone belly up.
Can anyone else ping viking.eukhost.com just in case it's my ISP playing up? I doubt it as I am getting through Telehouse to Linx but you never know.

At 21:19 when my first post from today on this thread was made your website hosting worked perfectly for me.
Now it times out and says "Internet Explorer cannot display this page" - this is no matter which part of your website hosting I try and view.
Either there is a temporary problem that will resolve itself with your website hosting or with the viking server or there is a more sinister problem.
From what I have seen it looks more like a temporary problem.

Hello Tim,
We have managed to track the user who was responsible for problems on Viking. One of our customer installed some perl script today which started multiple processes of a perl script. We had to reboot the server as the number of those processes was too high to kill.
Everything should be back to normal in few minutes.

Oh dear - well at least you know the website hosting will be back online soon. It's horrible when someone elses actions cause your website hosting to go down!!

Same problem here, I'm about to submit a ticket. Very sad that every time my board breaks, it's because of unannounced server setting changes. Not very professional.

I have turned Off safe mode right now and informed all our system admins to make no such changes in future without informing someone in customer service department. It gets difficult for us to communicate with customers when such security changes are done.
henceforth there should not be any such changes without prior notification.
