Glad to see that it is sorted for everyone now. Hopefully that should be the end of your problems after this freak and out of the blue attack and overloading of the server .

It's been fixed now. Your IP got blocked by the server for some reason.

You should check if you have any sort of Virus on your local machine.Website Hosting which we had to suspend was constantly getting hits from your IP as well so we blocked your IP.

All other hits were coming from Chinese and Korean IPs and yours was only 1 IP that was hitting that website hosting from UK IP.

Sounds like a nasty virus / spyware infection there . Ensure you've ran checks using products like AVG Antivirus and Spybot Search and Destroy .

Glad to see this is resolved and I do appreciate that the circumstances are somewhat unusual.
However, what about the comments made re the lack of updates, conflicting updates and the lack of notification via the forum?

This problem was something which other technical people never saw previously. They were waiting for completion of FSCK as FSCK takes 20 - 30 minutes most of the times but this time it was completely different and they were not aware of the fact that FSCK would have never completed on the server due to inode issue.

Some other senior staff members were not available today to post on the forum as 50% of our staff has their weekly off on Saturday and rest on Sunday. I received call from other staff members and when I reached office I was able to recall my previous experience with such problem and it was fixed immediately by stopping FSCK and removing /tmp partition from the server.

I was in the process of backing up my website hosting when the server went down. I was downloading the whole structure via FTP. But I can't imagine that would have shown up as malicious activity would it?

As far as I can tell there is nothing on any of my machines here that could have caused the problem. I am pretty well hidden away behind hardware firewalls etc.

Not sure if this is related, but Yahoo lately have been creating excessive traffic on my website hostings, because of their new, "improved" bots. You can read more here. Until they conform to something less extreme, and because I need my DB connections and bandwidth for humans, not bots, I have banned their IPs through CPanel.

People might want to consider doing something like this, I 've had literally 100's of yahoo bot sessions on my website hostings at any given time before banning them. The IP block is 74.6.0.0-74.6.255.255 and is all owned by Yahoo, so you can be sure you won't be banning anyone else.

EUKHost people could probably let us know if they noticed anything related to yahoo?

Interesting reading about Yahoo. I had noticed an increase in traffic from Yahoo as Google used to be the most active bot on my website hosting but not any more.

It's nothing excessive but I'll keep an eye on it now I know there can be a problem. Fortunately my website hosting is fairly low on the radar as it's only a Village Community Web site hosting (quality over quantity).

Bots have always puzzled me perhaps how to control them would be a better way of describing what I mean.. is there a way to limit them hitting a website hosting effectivly I mean ?

Depends on the bot in question.

Some like Google and Yahoo you can actually limit how often they visit your website hosting. I know Google can be done through the webmaster tools, not sure on Yahoo but I am sure it was mentioned in the blog link above.

You can also limit where the bot can access using robots.txt if you don't want it to index a particular portion of your website hosting. Or you can use robots.txt to create a sitemap if you find it's not index particular parts of your website hosting. I have used the latter method and it has improved the pages indexed on the search engines, especially dynamic content from my CMS.

Google robots.txt there are a loads of website hostings regarding it's use and if you have a google account they give you ways to test your file live.

Yahoo, Google, MSN and other trusted bots make no problems for the servers or website hostings. They simply crawl text on website hostings and they ensure that the servers are not overloaded.

Bot which was crawling website hosting ( culprit ) was quite different as it was constantly being blocked by mod_security on the server but his sessions were not blocked as mod_security cannot block sessions. every 32 bit system has got this bug of 32,000 files limit per directory and once you get more than 32,000 files in a single directory then the inode structure fails.

I assume now that the bot has been identified it can be permanently banned from accessing any of the servers and causing a repeat of this problem .
