Default Accessing web space after domain name has been transferred?

Hi,

I have to transfer a domain that came free with my hosting package to another registrar for use with a new web site hosting by someone else.

But I need to still be able to access the website hosting at EUKHOST after this has been done?

I can't view it by IP address, so how will I be able to view it?

Thanks.

http://IP-address/~username/

Thats how you can access your website hosting with Temporary URL.

Should it work before the domain is transferred out? I just tried it, and it didn't.

Thanks.

Yes. it should work before as well as after transfer. I can provide you with exact Temporary URL if you let me know your domain name.

for knowledge of other customers hosted on plesk servers. Temporary access URL should be as following :-

http://[ServerIP]/$sitepreview/[Domain]/

One last question.

Once the eukhost registered domain has transferred to this other registrar - will it work if I set up web diversion from that registrar to my eukhost web space by way of the temporary access URL?

Thanks.

It should do. Ideal though you should change the nameservers for the domain so they point to the ones on the eUK server.

Hi,

Now my domain name has transferred elsewhere I am unable to browse my website hosting via the temporary access URL. (I can still FTP in).

Can you advise how I should browse the site?

Thanks.

I would assume that the same principle would apply with the new server IP etc. Depending on where you've migrated to and the operating system, it may have a different format but I'm need a bit more info to be able to give you a more concrete answer.

Hi Jonathan,

The website hosting I want to access is the one that's still here on EUKhost. The domain name has now moved to another registrar and is pointing at a different website hosting now.

Thanks.

Hi,

You can do this :

On the TaskBar click Start > Run, type in 'Drivers' & press 'Enter', you'd find yourself in "C:\Windows\System32\Drivers", now double click on 'etc' to get into it.

You'd see a "Hosts" file there, open it with Notepad [open Notepad & drag that hosts file into it]

Now go to the bottom of that file, you'd see an entry such like : 127.0.0.1 localhost

Below that line copy paste this :

Code:
xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx your-actual-domain.com
xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx www.your-actual-domain.com
Here xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx is the actual IP address of the server & your-actual-domain.com is your actual domain name..

Save the file, now Open command prompt & ping your-actual-domain.com, it'd ping to xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx even when the web site hosting isn't really pointing there..

Let me know if you have any further questions.

Thanks Rock. That works. It's a shame that I can no longer use a web site hosting preview URL though.

I'm not sure of the point of the web site hosting URL if it doesn't allow you to access the web site hosting when the domain name is no longer there.

The web site hosting preview URL is meant to view the web site hosting before the change over of your name servers. If you can email your domain to windows [at] eukhost.com we will be able to fix the problem or provide you with the exact reason on why did it not work for you.
