Creating new virtual directory
Hi,
I know I've done this before but my brain has faded!
I'm trying to create a new virtual directory under httpdocs for a new asp.net application. I've gone to the 'Web Directories' icon in Plesk and would expect to see 'Add new virtual directory' as an option but all I can see is 'Add Directory'
Any guesses anyone?
Cheers,
Phil

Hello,
You can create "Virtual Directory" through Plesk Control Panel. You need to follow the steps given below
1) Login to your Plesk Control Panel
2) Go to Home >> Select the domain from domain list >> Web Directories >> Add New Virtual Directory >> Put the name of Virtual Directory which you want to create >> Hit OK.
Cheers
Alfred.

Thanks Albert,
As I said in my original post, this is what I was trying to do but the Add New Virtual Directory icon is missing!

Hello,
We have enabled "Virtual Directory" icon in Plesk Control Panel. Now you will be able to create "Virtual Directory" through Plesk Control Panel.
Cheers
Alfred.

Hi Alfred,
I'm afraid this doesn't seem to have worked, see attached screenshot.

Hello,
Thank you for providing us the screen shot, we have tried that with your username/password and we were able to add virtual directory. I request you to open support instance with username/password for further investigation.

Aha, I remember this now! The icon disappeared some months ago when eukhost upgraded the control panel. No matter how much I've cleared the temporary internet files and so on, I still can't see the icon but when I log in from another PC, I can see the icon. It's very weird and a bit of a pain but I've managed to create the directory now from another PC.

Yes, I've tried those steps, you're repeating what Alfred said in his first post. Have a look at the screenshot in one of my later posts, the icon isn't there.
We've established that the icon is missing on my main PC but not when I use another PC. I know it sounds odd but there you go...

Hi Phil,
Have you tried CTRL + F5 ?
This should clear cache from your local machine.

Hi,
Just tried ctrl-f5, no luck. To make it even more bizarre, I've just noticed that this is an https page and I've got the 'Do not save encrypted pages to disk' option checked in IE so they shouldn't be cached anyway. I'm not too worried since I can use another PC but it's all rather bizarre!

Hi Phil,
Can you try using Mozilla Firefox, a different but better browser. This really sounds like an issue with the machine itself & maybe specific to IE only. I've tested your account from say 4-5 distinct browsers to get the Plesk CP show me the 'Add New Virtual Directory' icon absolutely fine.. Safari, Opera to name a few..

Apologies but I'm going to be rude...
Up until now, I've been extremely happy with the support that I've received from eUKHost - but saying that Mozilla is a "different but better" browser and that I should use it is a really amateur response. I use IE for the same reason I use Windows hosting rather than Linux, not necessarily because it's the best (I'd agree, it's not) but because it's what most of my clients use and this site is my sandpit. I moved to eUKhost for this specific reason - Windows hosting rather than Linux/unix.
We've already established that you can see the icon and I can't so "4-5 distinct browsers" is a waste of time and effort. I know and accept that the problem must ultimately lie with my machine or browser since it doesn't happen on other machines but there must also be an issue with Plesk that no matter how many times I clear the cache and do ctrl-f5 or whatever, I still can't see that icon on this PC. I've not come across any other web based application that exhibits this anomaly. Don't forget that I could see this icon before your upgrade to Plesk in June/July of this year.

Quoting my earlier reply, "Can you try using Mozilla Firefox", I used the word try for the purpose which would make the point clear whether the problem lied in the machine or the browser. It'd have sounded amateur but I had no intention that you switch from IE to Firefox permanently or to any other browser. I have IE 6.0 installed on one my local machine & IE 7 on the other. I've attached screenshots from both the versions which show the button. I did the various browser tests, to confirm whether the problem lied in the control panel or the browser. I commented Firefox as "different but better", because I myself use that browser & a change in the browsers would help us track down the irregularity of being associated with the machine or IE specific..

Coming to the point that the control panel upgrade has caused this issue, there are several clients hosted on the same server as your account is, they have never encountered such an anomaly before with the control panel features going missing. You've confirmed in your earlier replies that you can see the icon from another machine indicates that it's definitely a problem on your local system.
Which version of IE are you using? Have you recently updated the Windows OS, or installed any updates, which may be responsible for the browser to act this way? Can you provide me the remote access to your local machine, so that I can login to fix this issue? I've added a 'Custom button' to your Plesk control panel named "Add New Virtual Directory", through which you'd be able to access the feature directly from the main control panel interface, I've attached a screenshot for that as well. Let me know if that icon is visible on your end.
I'd suggest moving/copying your account to a different server to check if that makes the icon to re-appear on your local machine/browser. Let us know if you'd like us to proceed with that..
Finally, I make an apology if any of my replies has made you unhappy, but they were in direction & solely meant to help you in your problem.. We at Eukhost always give our best to any extent to sort out issues faced by our clients; we never let them down at any instance.

Hi,
Sorry it's taken a few days to get back but problem solved! It turns out it was my ad-blocker (the excellent IE7pro) causing the problem but it wasn't obvious because the other buttons had shifted over because it was an entire DIV being blocked so everything looked normal.
Apologies for getting frustrated with anyone trying to help me but I knew the problem had to lie at my end with IE and I wanted to resolve this rather than install new browsers.
Just in case anyone else comes across this problem, if you look at the attached screenshot, you can see it was blocked for having _ad in the id - simple solution, just dont filter the control panel url for ads.
So, thanks for your help and sorry again for being abrupt
Phil

A curious and strange problem Phil. I'm glad you've found the solution - that definitely will have been a tough one to figure out!
