Default File permissions and Plesk down (?)

1) Domain Name:
image-machine.com

2) Server Name and IP address:
I don't know how to find the server name, sorry.
91.186.30.8

3) Description of problem:

I have a 'counter' program, which should read a number from, and write an incremented number to, a file called (imaginatively) 'counter' in my 'var' directory. I don't think it's being updated and I suspect access permissions are the cause.

4) Anything you might have done which may have caused the problem:

See 5.

5) Anything you have done already, to try and resolve the problem:
Had a go at pemissions with Plesk, but not sure if I did the right thing, and now I can't run Plesk.

I'd like to know how I should use Plesk to propely set permissions for web (IISweb?) users in circumstances such as this - and I'd be grateful if you could review the permissions on my domain and see if that really is the problem in this case.

Many thanks,

Paul

Hi Paul,
The permissions have been correctly setup on the server. I had manually edited the counter.txt file & changed the digit '1' to '8' within it. But no sooner I browsed your website, the digit got reverted back to '1' I'm now looking into this & will provide you with an alternative; otherwise
