Default I've nearly had enough

Hello,

Again I find myself writing in this forum about the excessive amount of spam emails I am still receiving..!!

Please can someone do something about this. Since Thursday last week (5 days) I have had over 630 emails. This is a real pain for me to keep clearing out from my mailbox and I'm sure also adds to my monthly usage figures generating "over usage" emails sent to me.

I have spam filtering on and am consistently using the so-called 'Training' features in Plesk to try to reduce this but it does not seem to do anything. I never had this with my previous host and I suspect I will not have it with my next....!! My next incidentally is looming faster than I thought..!!

Please resolve this for me or I shall be forced to end the contract and will be getting a refund due to the amount of time I waste each day with this.

Thank You.

sorry to hear that. You'll probably have seen my posts on this forum about the very same thing. Took them nearly a month to sort it out before they finally told me that the spam filter hadn't been working (I could have told them that!!). It's currently working for me (although IMAP is more off then on at the moment meaning I'm having trouble getting ANY emails, spam or not). I hope you get it sorted.

Hi,

Our new DNP cluster is live from last 8 - 10 days and it looks much better than Plesk. You are most welcome to open a ticket for our Windows Support team and ask them to migrate your account on our new DNP Cluster. We have smartermail installed on our DNP cluster and spam protection in smartermail takes care of at least 95% spams.

Please let me know once you have submitted a ticket, I will communicate with our Windows Support team and ask them to migrate your account asap.

Here's some advice which has helped me avoid such amounts of spam e-mail, while the spam filter should be able to get the job done leaving your e-mail address out in the open will just keep attracting even more spammers.

A good way to combat this is to have your e-mail displayed as an image so only HUMANS can read it, not spam bots. This might not solve the problem completely but it should help reduce the spam load. Another way is to use name AT domain.com instead of name@domain.com and tell your users to replace AT with @.

Not displaying your email in a bot-readable format may help prevent spam, but not by much. At least, I never noticed any noticeable increase or decrease in received spam whether I choose to display my email or not. Personally, I would recommend disabling catch-all email if you haven't already — that works in preventing people from sending your spam. Of course, there are those that do get through, in which case it's up to the spam filters to stop it.

Thanks eUKHost,

How do I go about raising the call. IT is still giving me over 200 emails a day and I still get the overuse messages daily also.

THank you.

Default Increase in spam emails

Hi folks,

I've also started receiving a huge amount of spam emails (Mystery Shopper, M-Shopper, etc. in the subject line since the reboot of the nimrod server (as highlighted in that discussion thread too). It's odd that they are only coming to one of the domains I have as add-ons - @bdesign-graphics.co.uk - and I deleted the email account in the hope that it would stop, but re-activaiting the account today, I've received over 250 of the same or similar message.

Is there a problem with the spam filters at the moment?

Cheers,
Brian

Hi Brian,

You've Linux shared hosting accounts with us. You can configure SpamAssassin [spam filters] from your cPanel interface to encounter the problem.

Please check these links for more info :

I'd recommend getting in touch with our Support Dept through Live chat or by opening a ticket with our Helpdesk. They'd be able to rectify whether there are any problems with the spam filtration processes on the server your account(s) is/are hosted on.

Thanks for the quick reply Rock.

I do have SpamAssassin enables, and I've just lowered the scoring on it to see if it has any effect. I'm not holding much hope out for that though, so will open a ticket and see what transpiers.

Cheers anyway,
Brian

I have the opposite problem at the moment - Even though Spam Assasin is turned off some of my mail never reaches me.
For example, I post to a forum (DearWandy) and have set in my CP there the option to send me an email when a new post arrives. This used to work, but no longer does. IE: the email never arrives if I use my domain address. If I use a Gmail account, then the mail gets through from the forums. If I send myself a message to the same address from GMail then it gets through.
My mail domain is on viking, so obviously SpamAssasin is not the only filteriing going on!

Hello Nigel,

One of our Senior Linux Administrators is looking into this issue & will get back to you once sorted. Thank you for your patience in the meantime..
