Default Motherboard replacement on .188 server.

Dear Customers,

server2.eukdns.com has got hardware problems and the motherboard will be replaced shortly. Server should be online by 9 PM GMT. We will update this post if there is any further information available. You can put your domain name on dnsreport.com to see the hostname of your server.

Regards,
Andrew King

Fortunately, it was much simpler than the motherboard. The power switch was apparently not toggling correctly and therefore the server was not being properly powered on. This has been repaired and the box is online now.

Please let us know if there is anything else we can do to assist you.

Regards,
Andrew King

Hi,

I've just checked my domain, nicols.org.uk, on dnsreport.com and it comes up with a couple of warnings and some fails.

One of the fails it lists is Missing (Stealth) nameservers and one of the Warnings is the TLD Glue.

I was wondering whether this will affect service at all?

Thanks in advance,

Andrew

Thank you for the prompt reply. The domain does seem a tiny bit quicker now too which is always welcome!

Default Similar thing for me

My main domain name is fine, but my subdomains fail.
These subs have been live for a long time now (upwards of 6 months) and so the problem is not with propagation.
Any thoughts?

dnsreport only gives domain information, not subdomain by the looks of it as I've tried a number of subdomains (e.g. www. lancs.ac.uk works, but www. comp.lancs.ac.uk doesn't despite being set up properly)

Yeah, I see that now.
On a tangent...
What makes the DNS entry for a subdomain different from that of a 'real' domain? The way I understood it (using your example) ac would be a subdomain of the TLD uk and lancs a further subdomain of this.

Probably something to do with the DNS propogation. At lancs we have our own DNS controllers I think so when you point to anything inside lancs.ac.uk as a subdomain (which are completely separate IPs in 99% of cases) the DNS resolution is passed on to dns.lancs.ac.uk... though I may be completely wrong... I'm just a student at this place!

I'm at 6th form college. If we had our own DNS server I'd be over the moon. The IT services there are so very very bad...

uni is a big step forward from school/college.

We have approximately 10,000 students at lancaster plus approximately 4000+ staff.

On the network we have over 12,000 devices excluding printers and switches.

In the lab I co-administer, we have 12xApple G5 Dual Processor 2.5Ghz with 2Gb RAM and a 23" Cinema Display, 7xApple G5 1.6Ghz with 1.5Gb RAM.
Our departmental server is a Dual G5 2.7Ghz water cooled with 4 Gb RAM and 2 250Gb HDDs.

There's a lot more tech when you get to university... a *lot* more! They have more money and intend to spend it!

Oh god I know...
Can't wait. Was just dreaming really. To be fair we did trial a new citrix server this week, was pretty cool, but hey, uni's not far off (fingers crossed).

And that server: Ouch!

In fact, all of that is so mindbendingly cool. You cannot understand how envious I am.

Look at Andrew bragging about our gear.

But yeah, those Macs make my day every single day I go into the labs.

The server is somewhat whipass. I want to get an xgrid array set up so that when I'm doing fourier analysis of sound files, I can do them in 3d and it won't take me 2 hours to run a 30 second file... it will take more like 5 minutes.

When're you off to uni? What are you thinking of studying and where?

Andrew

I've been quite ambitious. Applied for medicine at sheffield, st andrews, hyms and brighton-sussex.
Was toying with computer science for a long time, but decided I'd prefer it as a hobby.
I take it you guys are reading computer science at lancs?

I'm reading Music Technlogy. I decided the same as you. I didn't want to go Comp Sci because I want to enjoy it, not live it as a job

What an utter shame... All I have is a £18,000 sound card instead of the £750 one I'm saving for... oh well, one must make do with what one has
