That server is a old server but we have backup drive on it on which we have setup daily rsync backup of all the data and our backup server in US takes weekly backup of all the data on SSH allowed server.

I need to be on the server with SSH, but it sounds that that your server in the US is even less reliable than your UK servers. If that is the case, there is no point for me to move from a currently unreliable hosting company to a new and more expensive unreliable hosting company.

don't get me wrong, I'm sure that this is going to be followed by half a dozen posts by users saying how they love your service and quality. I get that and my currently unreliable hosting company forum too. and they havelost my data twice and my settings four times within one year.

I would like to hear from you again when you have a server with SSH and also RAID mirroring set up. I'm not really worried so much about losing data (of course I have backups of my own), but when a machine goes down so I cannot have email for several hours, that is really annoying.especially if all thesite settings are lost as well

All our UK servers setup in last 3 months have RAID1 and all servers including UK and US based servers have backups configured on 2 different backup servers.

If you need SSH access then you can choose our VPS Hosting hosting plan but there wont be any SSH access on any of our UK based servers. We are firm on security of our servers and there wont be any compromise no matter if you are ready to pay £1000 to get SSH access on any of our shared servers excluding the one reserved for it.

1) I thought that is what user and group directory permissions were for
2) does that mean there is no security on the SSH server
3) without SSH do you have alternatives to do mass file renames/moves/deletes on whatever Web interface you use
4) Do all new accounts go on the new RAID1 servers

We don't allow SSH access as people can run scripts and processes which will overload the server.

We allow SSH access on one of our server and so far we had no complaints on that server but it has been our policy to keep SSH access limited to 1 server only and we don't wish to invest our time to find out reasons for giving SSH service on shared servers.

If you need SSH service then pay more and become root user of your VPS Hosting or dedicated server.

You can change permissions using file manager or a FTP software like WS FTP Pro. WS FTP Pro has got some good features for changing permissions of multiple files and folders.

All new accounts ( Shared, Resellers & VPS Hosting ) are activated on RAID1 servers.

can symbolic links still be created via web?

will RAID1 be added to the SSH server then?

my current host ends next week, I hope to make a decision by then whether to move.

Symbolic links cannot be created by web. You can make use of mod_rewrite or SSH access to create symlinks.

We are building a new server in our UK server farm which will support SSH access. This will be a RAID1 server and it will be live on Friday Morning ( 9th Feb 2007 )

This new server was setup last night. We have reserved this server for those who will need Shell Access, shell_exec and exec permission.

All this features have been disabled on all other servers and those who need any of the disabled features will be setup on firefly.eukhost.com

This new server is a Quad Xeon with 8 MB cache, RAID1 and 4 GB RAM. We will also keep its daily and weekly backup.
