Default Puma

Is there an issue with Puma at the moment? I had problems bringing my sites up and the email is being a git. Was fine this morning but when I went to check my emails it is struggling. It is not my internet connection, I checked that before I decided to post.

I also had notification that my main site was down last night for 29 mins, ok not the end of the world but if there is an issue I would like to know before my phone starts ringing off the hook with hacked off clients. Knowing in advance would also enable me to locate a dark cupboard in which to hide until it all blows over.

Just spent the last 20 mins trying to collect my mail and failing, the only mail I have been able to pick up is hotmail....lol Like I need to read that.

Any clues chaps??
Ta ever so....

Puma is currently experiencing a high load - and therefore all accounts are being migrated onto a new server by the end of this week.

Well Ok thanks for the quick answer, but was I actually going to be told about this at some point? Not being picky but some sort of heads up would have been appreciated, especially when I have to then explain this to clients

Do you know if there will be any down time with the migration and do we know what day/time this is going to be done? I would like to be able to let my clients know in advance as it save both them and me grief.

As far as I know, eUKhost notified (or will notify) all clients 24 hrs prior to the move. There should be no downtime during the transfer as it should be a live swap.

Excellent. I am going away on Friday until late Sunday, if there is going to be some sort of disaster could you please ensure it either happens before Friday or after Sunday

No truly I rarely go anywhere but I can guarantee when I do things will go tits up

If the wheels do fall off this migration do you get to field the evil phone calls I am going to get from my clients

PM your main domain name or username. I will personally check your websites once migration is done.

If you get any calls from your customers then call our toll free number immediately and ask them to raise a ticket for you and call you back once the ticket is resolved by a senior technical person.

Oi ! settle down chaps !!! Blimey I was actually having a bit of a joke here ( BTW your emoticons suck) Yes I am having a bit of a mare here and knowing we are migrating when I am away does not give me sweet dreams. However you peeps here should know me well enough by now to know I am not about to be going off on one. If when I get back and my sites are looking a bit shabby, then okay I will go off on one.

Fair play?

Load on Puma has been below 1 from last 10 hours. We are monitoring puma and there's nothing wrong on Puma.

I'll keep you posted with status of puma as there won't be any need for migration of the server if there's nothing with it.

Are this mornings problems with sites on Puma due to the server or the issue mentioned on network issue at LINX 18/05/2008 ?

EDIT: For reference things were back to normal and running by about 8:30am.

I am a most unhappy troggy tonight and mainly because of my problems today, and the almost non existent help I got from live support. Now to be fair I am normally pretty light hearted about things, and do not confess to being the brain of Britain and often ask for help when I do not understand something. Nothing wrong with admitting you do not understand something.

However today I am a tad hacked off. All my websites and email were unavailable to me for a considerable time and as I knew there had previously been probs with the Puma server I thought I would look and see if there was anything here on the forum which might offer some insight into the problem. Scant but I posted, in what I thought was pretty light hearted manner, but nothing was forthcoming so I thought it better to seek some information from Live support.

Really wished I had not bothered as my blood pressure and my patience level reversed roles.

I know the peeps who man the live support do not have all the answers to all of the questions but when they have not got the answer could they just not say I am not sure let me go and check for you and I will be back in a minute....Not a big ask! Nope today mine host 'Rick' left me waiting for an answer and to be fair I have a life and did not feel that the length of time I waited for some sort of a response was fair. Yes I do have the transcript.

My IP was blocked today for over 3 hours, without warning and all because the server was having a moment and to quote

Quote:
your ip was blocked on the server due to pop3 login failures
Okay so this is a problem for me major league as I live in Spain and we don't have static IP's and so I ask the question:

Quote:
So you are telling me if this happens again then the ip will be blocked?

Rick: yes
Sorry that is not acceptable to me. It is tough enough with not having a static IP so if the server does another tip up I get the same deal

This is the point I got really hacked off:

Quote:
Rob: OK then I will have to take this to a higher level as this is not acceptable

Rick: as there was some problem on the server due to which your were not able to access the pop3 account on the server but it has been sorted now and you will not face this problem

Rob: Puma is having some problems of late we had an outage yesterday for about 30 mins or so. I was told that all accounts were going to migrated to another server at the end of last week but that did not happen. Can you tell me if this is still going to happen

Then I had silence for some considerable time. Now you can class me as someone who just wants to have a pop, but in fairness I think I have always remained good humoured and tried to be supportive when I know there have been internal problems. Most I think would agree with me when I say " it is easier to weather the storm and stay on target than to whinge and get nowhere" I feel I fall into that category, however today you guys managed to hack me off and I would like an answer to the last question I asked on live support that 'Rick' felt unable or unwilling to answer. I too have clients to answer to.

Regards

Seems like Puma is possibly experiencing some difficulty at the moment. I am sure that this will be resolved shortly but also don't forget (if you haven't already done so) to raise a support ticket - support.eukhost.com

EDIT - All servers, as far as I am aware, are set to block an IP if it makes multiple failed pop3 or FTP login attempts - this is to preserve the security of your site and the server that hosts it.

DPS I appreciate your comments I will raise a support ticket but right now this usually friendly blonde bird in Spain is especially hacked off. Maybe tomorrow would be better. I do not think I have been unduly hard on the guys but sometimes even the camp comedienne can have an off day

Seems I am having one. I will review this in the morning. Thanx for your imput

I accept that however 'Rick' accepts that the problem for this was not my end but the server end, herein I have a problem...capishe !

Sorry that sounded a bit abrupt not meant to I am a little stressed

Edit: I should have added this but it is getting kinda late here and I am stressed and tired. This might explain why I am hacked off !

Ah right, I do seem a little confused on this issue now. There was either a problem on the server which meant you couldn't log in or that IP address was blocked for multiple failed log in attempts - I doubt the two things happened at once.

I would, personally, seek clarification from support as to whether there was a problem which erronoeusly denied you access or whether the IP was blocked for multiple failed log in attempts - there seems to be 2 explanations for one problem here!

PS - regarding my last post - everything apart from the "EDIT" section was written before I saw your post above which is why I ended up editing it .

Still having a few probs here with Puma. Sites have all gone down again, and live support tell me admin are doing some work on the servers and the sites should be back in 15 - 20 mins.

I do hope they get this server sorted soon as this is getting a bit tedious

Also very difficult trying to explain to clients who have know technical knowledge why their sites are down again.

I do believe that a migration to a brand new server has now been scheduled in light of the recent problems Puma has been experiencing as there is no reason why Puma should not be performing to its full capacity and expectations. The logs haven't recorded any problems and the cause is as yet unknown - hence the server is being upgraded. Hopefully this will be completed soon and in a short space of time .

Puma has gone in FSCK once again. It will take 30 - 60 minutes more to come online.

We have setup a new server to replace Puma and if possible, we will get Puma replaced tonight.
