12 hours on and still down. Yet another 'it will be back up in an hour' fob off from support!

Your VPS seems to be hosted on Hercules node which has given File System errors after migration. We are running manual FSCK on the /vz partition of this node which is expected to complete shortly. There's no ETA available for such manual FSCK as its difficult to guess how many files have got corrupted. RAID array will take some more time to rebuild on completion of FSCK.

User files or oporating files is that.

Posted this here as you must be under a rather large pile of support tickets!
This is a different problem which should be posted in technical support forum or to our VPS support Team.

/VZ partition is going through FSCK so it is running FSCK on userfiles only. OS files are in /var, /usr, /proc partitions which rarely give any problem. Life of harddrives is reduced on VPS Hosting nodes as /vz partition goes through inconsistent disk write / read process due to some customers making excessive use of their space while others making no use resulting in bad sectors on the /vz partition.

Shared / Reseller or dedicated hosting servers never go through such problems as the disk read / write is consistent on them and the harddrives never get tested on such extreme conditions.

Does that mean there is a possibility of data being lost?

most of the times some mysql data gets corrupted after such FSCK but MySQL repair wizard gets this sorted. rebuild of RAID array will also try to patchup data loss if there is any. We have backups as well so lets wait till the node comes online.

Server is now online and there doesn't appear to be any loss of data.

However I go back to my point about the migration starting 4 hours earlier than I was told by email. I was not able to do a back-up prior to the downtime starting because of this.

Your comments also seem at odds with your support team. When I raised the point last night i was told there was no possiblity of data loss as the server had been shut down correctly.

Server down again

the reason being given now is

It seems it is the DNS cache at ISP . It will take some time to start resolving from your VPS.

I am not sure why you need to contact everyone in support team to have their opinion about the problem. I have mentioned that FSCK is going on and I will let you know once RAID array rebuild gets completed.

FSCK has now got completed on Hercules node and it has come online. We are starting all VPS's one by one and your vps should be online shortly.

@pelhamsteve: As far as I can tell the eukhost rent the servers which are being moved, and the move is being done by the company which own the servers. Therefore the exact time and speed of the move is out of eukhost's hands.

EUKHost are most likely going on information which they have been told and therefore have to assume is true. However suppliers (in this case the company which rents out the servers) have a habbit not meeting previously stated deadlines and they don't necessarily inform the relevent people of delays, something I've experienced at work myself.

Whilst the additional downtime was unexpected and probably fustrating it's important to have some patience. I imagine eUKhost are equally fustrated about the unexpected problems, and along with a higher volume of support tickets are doing as much as they are able to to get things back to normal.

I'd advice submitting a single support ticket on the problem for the relevent department to sort out. Repeatedly contacting live chat and/or posting lots of tickets and posts is unlikely to get things resolved, and is more likely to get people's backs up.

Well that's my $0.02 worth for now.

Hi Eidolon

If there are problems then fine, it's the misinformation that gets to me. It seems support just say the first thing that comes into their head to get rid of you

I actually never received any email regarding the move and only found out about it after checking a website and it wasn't resolving.

I then checked my email and seen a msg "cpsrvd failed @ etc"

I then came onto the forums to see this thread... totally in the dark and giving the timescale, looks as if mine was on the batch being moved on the 25th and should have been completed... as it would not have been affected had it been in the batch due today.

I received no notification email for my VPS. The first time I was aware of any problem was when I tried to access my website.

Stating that an email was sent isn't likely to be correct in all cases. It may have been intended to be sent, but in my case was never received - I checked every email address I have just to be sure.
