Ans. You have full access to .htaccess on any of our linux hosting plans which includes semi-dedicated servers as well.

Using MS Access database on windows hosting

Q. Can i be able to use an MS Access database instead of mysql or php on windows hosting packages?

Ans :- Microsoft Access (MS Access) database as well as Microsoft SQL (MSSQL) databases are supported on all our windows hosting packages. You can add unlimited databases under any of our windows hosting packages. The only limitations enforced would be the number of domains, webspace and bandwidth you have.

Linux server with UK IP address

Q. Do your Linux Servers have UK IP addresses?

Ans. Yes, All our servers are UK based and have UK IP addresses. Your account would be setup on a shared IP address, which is part of our UK (Maidenhead) based network. If you need a dedicated IP address, then you can order it from https://www.eukhost.com/mb/order/index.php?v=8. We charge £2 per dedicated IP address per month.

PhpMyAdmin support on various packages

Q. Do you provide PhpMyAdmin support on various packages?

Ans. We provide PhpMyAdmin support on all our hosting packages, which you can use to manage your databases properly without having to worry of trying to use MySQL from the shell.

Frontpage extension problems

Q. How do you deal with frontpage extension problems?

Ans :- The latest Frontpage RPM package does conflict with the latest versions of cPanel, causing Frontpage extensions to stop working correctly. Frontpage uses an author.exe script, which occasionally overloads the server. Frontpage extensions will crash when the server automatically kills the author.exe process, to reduce the server load. We don’t have any problem with author.exe overloading on any of our servers as all of our new servers are Quad Core Xeons with 8 GB RAM and 8 MB cache. CPU cache is one of the most important factors in load management on our servers.

Are your services VAT registered?

Q. Are your web hosting plans covered under VAT?

Ans. Yes, eUKhost Ltd. is a UK Limited, VAT Registered company, to find out more about our company, please visit the “about us” section on our website. The VAT number is 927 0466 20.

Using sendmail

Q. Can I send occasional emails from your servers?

Ans. Yes, you can send occasional emails from our servers using Sendmail. Sendmail has been setup and we don’t put any restrictions on legitimate emails sent through sendmail. We have our servers constantly monitored so you won’t have any problems with any services on our servers. The security restrictions currently enforced on our servers will prevent you from misusing applications such as phpmail and sendmail on your account(s).

Installing perl libraries

Q. Is it possible to install additional perl libraries via cPanel?

Ans. If you are on shared hosting or reseller hosting, then you cannot install these perl libraries at your end. You can only install perl modules from your end if you are on a dedicated server or a VPS. If you want, we can install additional perl modules as per your request. All you need to do is open a support ticket or contact our livechat support and we will get this done for you.

Uploading default.htm and index.htm

Q. How do I upload my homepage named default.htm to index.htm?

Ans. If you are hosted on one of our windows hosting packages, then you need to upload the main homepage as default.htm. However, if you are hosted on one of our linux hosting packages, then you need to upload the main homepage as index.html. If you don’t need asp.net and MSSQL, we suggest you signup for one of our linux hosting packages/cPanel packages, as the windows control panel doesn’t come with many features which cPanel control panel has.

Datacenter connection speed

Q. Where are the datacenters located and what are the bandwidth and backbone connection speeds?

Ans. Right now we are filling our UK based nodes. We have some nodes in Chicago (US) as well but by default accounts are activated in our Maidenhead based datacenter. Our datacenter in the UK is equipped with a backbone of 15gbps. We run some servers with 10 Mbps uplink and some with 100Mbps depending on the requirements.
