Using MS Access database on windows hosting

Q. Would I be able to use an MS Access database instead of mysql or php on windows hosting packages?

Ans :- Microsoft Access (MS Access) database as well as Microsoft SQL (MS SQL) databases are supported on all our windows web hosting uk plans. You can add multiple databases under any of our windows hosting packages as per the limit prescribed for each of those plans. We also have MS SQL database size limitation on Windows Shared hosting and Windows Reseller hosting which is 400 MB for each database.

MS Access Database Fundamentals:-

Are you overpowered by the huge size of data that needs to be tracked in your company? Probably you are using a orthodox paper filing system, text based documents or a excel spreadsheet to track your mission critical data. If you are looking for a highly flexible data management system, a online database might be just what you are looking for.

A database is a well organized collection of information. A DBMS (database management system) such as Microsoft Access, Oracle, FileMaker Pro, MySQL Server or Microsoft SQL Server gives you the software tools that you need to manage data in a flexible manner. It includes various features which help you to add, modify or delete information or data from the database, you can ask questions (or queries) about the information stored in the database and generate reports analyzing selected content.

Microsoft Access provides users with most simplest and highly flexible DBMS solutions in the online database market today. Day to day users of Microsoft products prefer the simple Windows ‘look and feel’ as well as the simple integration with other Microsoft Office addon products. High volume of wizards reduce the complexity of administrative tasks and the all time present Microsoft Office Helper (you know it as the paper clip) is always available for those who like to use it. Before you purchase Microsoft Access, make sure that your computer or windows server meets the minimum system requirements suggested by Microsoft. To get started we will first go through 3 of the main components of Microsoft Access that many Microsoft Access database users will encounter – tables, queries and forms. Once we have completed that we will then look at the additional benefits of reports, web integration and SQL Server integration.

Tables comprise the most fundamental building blocks of any database. If you have previous experience of using spreadsheets, then you will feel very comfortable with Microsoft Access Database Management, setup and configuration.

A typical table in Microsoft Access database contains the employee information for the company — characteristics like name, pay package, date of birth and title. Simply Examine the construction of the database table and you will figure out that each column of the table corresponds to a particular employee characteristic. Each row will correspond to a specific employee and contain her or his information. That is all there in it! If it helps, just think of each of these tables as a typical spreadsheet style listing of information.

It is always recommended for the beginners to start with MS Access and management of Microsoft Access database is quite simple. You can easily convert your MS Access ( MDB ) database into a MSSQL ( sql ) database as and when your requirements grow in future. SQL to MDB export / import can be easily done using the tools embedded within the Microsoft Windows 2003 Server.

MS Access Database support is available on our Windows Shared hosting, Windows Reseller Hosting, Windows VPS Hosting, Windows Semi-Dedicated and Windows Dedicated Servers. Microsoft Access is also supported on our recently launched Windows Business Web hosting plans.

Frontpage extension problems

Q. How do you deal with frontpage extension problems?

Ans :- The latest Frontpage RPM package does conflict with the latest versions of cPanel, causing Frontpage extensions to stop working correctly. Frontpage uses an author.exe script, which occasionally overloads the server. Frontpage extensions will crash when the server automatically kills the author.exe process, to reduce the server load. We don’t have any problem with author.exe overloading on any of our servers as all of our new servers are Dual Quad Core Xeons with 12 GB RAM and 2x2x6 MB cache. CPU cache is one of the most important factors in load management on our servers.

Are your services VAT registered?

Q. Are your web hosting plans covered under VAT?

Ans. Yes, eUKhost Ltd. is a UK Limited, VAT Registered company, to find out more information about our company, please visit the “about us” section on our website. Our VAT registration number is 927 0466 20. All prices quoted for our web hosting services and domain names already include VAT, so the price you see is the price you pay.

Installing perl libraries

Q. Is it possible to install additional perl libraries via cPanel?

Ans. If you are on one of our shared hosting or reseller hosting plans, then you won’t have the ability to install perl libraries yourself at your end. You can only install perl modules from your end if you are on a VPS, Semi Dedicated Server or a Dedicated Server as you get full root SSH access on all these web hosting UK types. You can log into the shell as root and install the perl modules of your choice via the command line.

Once logged in, from any directory, type:

echo “HTML::Template” | /usr/local/cpanel/whostmgr/bin/perlmod -i

(in this case, the module we want to install is HTML::Template).

If you want, we can install additional perl modules as per your request. All you need to do is raise a support ticket via our helpdesk or contact our live chat support and we will get this done for you.

Uploading default.htm and index.htm

Q. How do I upload my homepage named default.htm to index.htm?

Ans. If you are hosted on one of our windows web hosting packages, you will need to upload the main homepage of your website as default.htm. However, if you are hosted on one of our cPanel hosting packages, then you need to upload the main homepage as index.html. If you don’t need asp.net and MS SQL database support, then we suggest you to order one of our Linux cPanel Hosting plans, as it comes with cPanel control panel which is the most popular, feature rich and user friendly control panel available.

Datacenter connection speed

Q. Where are the datacenters located and what are the bandwidth and backbone connection speeds?

Ans. eUKhost has its servers located in UK as well as US. Our UK data centers are located in Maidenhead, County Berkshire and Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire in England while our US data center is located in Chicago. All new web hosting UK accounts/web servers are setup on our UK based servers in Maidenhead and Milton Keynes by default. We also setup dedicated servers in our US based data center on client request in case a client needs a US based server. We maintain daily/weekly backups for our servers and those backup servers are housed in our Chicago data center.

As far as our network connectivity is concerned, our datacenters in theĀ UK are equipped with 20,000mbits of network connectivity for our servers. We have 2 x 10 Gbps uplinks for each data center. Each server in our data center is setup on 100 Mbps, fully-switched port on an edge switch. Each edge switch is then in turn plugged into two separate aggregation switches at 1gbit, with failover redundancy allowing either 1gbit link to fail. Our network transit connections are currently to Level 3, Tiscali, and Deutsche Telekom. We also peer with approximately 150 ISPs at the peering points LINX, XChangePoint, and LoNAP.

How many VPS’s are hosted per physical machine?

Q. How many VPS’s do you host per physical machine?

Ans. We keep 3 VPS Hosting nodes in rotation for new order and we setup 10-15 VPS Hosting accounts on one nodes. It also depends upon the VPS plans which need to be setup on the node i.e. if we need to setup five L-VPS-03 accounts on the node then then we will be able to create only 10-15 VPS. We use high specification Quad Core Xeon processor servers with 8 GB RAM and mirrored hard drives which allows us the flexibility to setup 10-15 VPS’s on a single node without hampering the overall performance of each VPS. At any given point of time, we keep 35-40% resources free on the server which is done to cover up for any emergencies or spikes in usage.

Webmail service

Q. Do you provide webmail service for accessing emails?

Ans. Yes, We provide webmail service on all of our web hosting plans and our customers / users can access their mailbox through webmail access URL.
