VPS vs Semi-Dedicated Server

Q. Can you give me some advice on what to choose, VPS Hosting or Semi Dedicated Hosting

Ans. Whether to choose VPS Hosting or Semi Dedicated Hosting depends upon what are you planning to host/run on the server. Our Semi Dedicated Hosting servers fill the gap between VPS Hosting and Dedicated Server Hosting. So if you need more resources than a Virtual Private Server but aren’t quite ready to upgrade to a dedicated server yet, eUKhost’s Semi Dedicated Server is the answer for you.

We setup only 6 Semi Dedicated Hosting accounts on one server which maximizes each client’s access to server resources, and since you have only a percentage of the server, you will only pay a fraction of the cost over a dedicated server. All Semi Dedicated Hosting accounts are hosted on Quad Core Intel Xeon processor web servers which are much more powerful than a Single Core or Dual Core Xeon processor web server. The servers come with 12 GB RAM which ensures that each account hosted on the server gets at least 2 GB of Guaranteed RAM.

Semi Dedicated servers are an ideal solution for Web hosting data such as resource intensive websites or business application software. They provide a secure environment for client data and clients can also enjoy the full power of the processor and hardware. The clients retain complete control and remote access to the server at all times.

ASP.NET 3.5 Hosting

Q. Do you support ASP.NET 3.5 on Windows Hosting? What is new in ASP.NET 3.5?

Ans. ASP.NET 3.5 is supported on all our Windows Hosting Servers.

ASP.NET Hosting

New features in ASP.NET 3.5 are as follows:-

* ASP.NET AJAX support – ASP.NET 3.5 has built-in support for ASP.NET AJAX. In addition to all the features in ASP.NET AJAX 1.0, ASP.NET 3.5 now also includes support for UpdatePanels integrating with WebParts, ASP.NET AJAX integration with controls like and .

* New ListView and DataPager Controls – The new ListView control offers flexibility in how you display your data, by allowing you to have complete control over the HTML markup generated. ListView‘s template approach to representing data is designed to easily work with CSS styles, which comes in handy with the new Visual Studio 2008 designer view.

* WCF support for JSON – Using the WCF you can now build Web services that can be exposed using any number of the Internet standard protocols, such as SOAP, RSS, JSON, POX and more.

Does this affect my ASP.NET 2.0 or 1.1 site?

* No, the ASP.NET 3.5 framework builds on the 2.0 library by adding additional functionality, there are no breaking changes and it should not effect your 2.0 code at all. There is no affect on ASP.NET 1.1 either.

How do I switch my site to using the 3.5 Framework?

* The ASP.NET 3.5 framework builds on or adds to the functionality of ASP.NET 2.0. If you site is set to use ASP.NET 2.0 and the 3.5 framework is installed, you should have access to the features within ASP.NET 3.5.

How do I install ASP.NET 3.5?

* If you are a shared hosting customer it is installed on all of our servers by default. If you are on a VPS or a Dedicated Server customer you can download the ASP.NET 3.5 framework at this URL, http://www.asp.net/downloads/essential/. If you would want our admins to install it for you, we would be happy to do so, all you need to do is raise a ticket via our helpdesk and we will get ASP.NET 3.5 installed for you.

Game server : VPS or Dedicated server ?

Q. Which can be used as good game server, is it VPS or a Dedicated Server?

Ans :- We do not recommend using a VPS as a game server since memory and CPU allocations for a VPS are far lesser as compared to a physical dedicated server. You can try out one of VPS Hosting plans for 1 month to see if it supports games. We generally do not recommend a VPS to be used as a Game Server as most of the games are big on resources, which will dramatically slow down the server, which in turn would not be worth the money you would save.

We provide assistance with game installations at no additional cost for our dedicated server customers. CPU resources are shared in case of VPS hosting and we do not offer any support for games hosting on a VPS. Our network backbone is of 15gbps and each dedicated server gets minimum 1gbps uplink as well as downlink speed which ensures best performance for online gaming.

What software do you use to provide VPS functionality?

Q. What software do you use to provide VPS functionality?

Ans. eUKhost uses Virtuozzo to provide VPS functionality. Virtuozzo has recently been released by Parallels to the Linux community. Plans are underway to add it to the core Linux kernel as well. Virtuozzo is the base of Parallels popular commercial VPS platform. There are few differences between Virtuozzo and it’s commercial counterpart from the end user perspective. Using Virtuozzo allows us to provide a rock-solid low cost VPS alternative to everyone!

Virtuozzo VPS Hosting

Virtuozzo allows you to reboot your VPS from your end if you need to do so after installation of some software or anything else which requires the virtual environment to be rebooted.

Additionally with Virtuozzo you will be able to stop and start services, view the running process and set up alerts to notify you if there is a problem with your VPS. Virtuozzo powered VPSs offer an order of magnitude higher efficiency and manageability than traditional virtualization technologies.

We at eUKhost are providing CentOS, Fedora Core, Debian and Ubuntu Operating System for VPS’s.
