Intel is the world’s leader in developing processor technologies. Intel processors have a collection of names. When leasing or purchasing a dedicated server from the web hosting providers, they may offer you servers with various processors.
Basically, before buying a server with a good processor, you should better know which processor is good and made for what purpose. You should choose a good processor that can increase the performance of your server.
Today, if you take a look at the market, you will find a lot of servers with Intel Core 2, Xeon, Core i7 and Celeron. It might be confusing for you if you are purchasing a server for the first time. The first thing you need to consider is the the processors designed for Laptops, Desktops, Servers and Workstations.
If you go through the Intel’s site you will notice that there are different processors for each category. Basically, the Intel Core 2 and Celeron processors are specifically designed for workstations and not for the web servers.
For the servers, Intel has designed the Xeon processors that delivers high-performance and which is also perfect for your most data-demanding workloads with improved scalability and increased memory and Input/Output capacity.
What you should remember is that never lease or buy a server with a Intel Celeron processor. There may be a slight difference between the high powered core i7 and Xeon processor, however, a Celeron processor having the same clock speed wil often have less cache and slower FSB.
If a web hosting provider tries to offer you a dedicated server with Celeron processor, then definitely they are selling you a low quality server. My personal recommendation would be to opt for a Xeon Processor based Dedicated Servers to get optimum performance.
