Network Connectivity

Provided by Simply Transit, we run a fully redundant BGP network consisting of two separate hardware vendors which provides redundancy not only in the network level, but also on the hardware level.

We operate two separate 10Gigabit networks, from both Extreme Networks and Foundry Networks at all locations. On top of this layer 2 network we operate two independent IP Transit networks (AS29550 and AS34920) which run from multiple Cisco Systems 7606-S RSP720 and 6509 SUP720 routers at multiple London facilities, offering true redundancy to each customer.

Connecting with multiple Tier 1 providers, as well the London Internet Exchange (LINX), we are the only provider able to offer IP services diverse of London, to any of our customers.

Hardware Guarantee & Security

Hardware Guarantee

All servers deployed at the data centre include hardware replacement guarantees. In case of any hardware component failure, the hardware is immediately replaced by our onsite data centre engineers.

Security

The data centre is located inside its own secure compound, with 2.4 and 3 meter fencing and electric gate entry equipped and monitored round the clock with closed circuits. Strict access controls are implemented including surveillance cameras, finger-print as well as keycard systems in order to manage entries.

Electrical Capacity, Power and Redundancy

Electrical Capacity

Equal power distribution (60 watts per sq. ft.- 80 watts per sq. ft). Each cabinet 4' x 6' gets 110 volt, 20 amp circuits. The main power sums up to 480 volt, 3 phase.

Power

In the unlikely event of a power outage from local power grid, all datacentres' power systems are designed to run uninterrupted with the help of Two 2000KW auto-switched power generators and centralized UPS systems. Generators are regularly tested and can be used in an event of extended utility power outages.

Precision Environment

Computerised Fully master-planned rise system / HVAC pipe system / Electrically monitored. HVAC (Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning) systems are N+1 redundant, ensuring that a duplicate system can immediately come online in the event of an HVAC system failure.

Fire Protection System

Wet risers are set in at every square position; FM-200 system is installed. The advanced fire protection system prevents fires from spreading in the unlikely event one should occur.

Are there any minimum term contracts with your servers?

There are no long term contracts with any of our services. Because of the cost of setting up and disconnecting servers at the data centre, we require 30 days advance notice to cancel an active dedicated server. For full details please refer to our SLA.

Dedicated servers are exempt from our money back guarantee because of the cost of setting up and disconnecting servers. Refunds will only be provided where we are legally required to do so (e.g. in accordance with your statutory rights).

CPU Model

This is the manufacturer and model of CPU installed in your server.

We use only Intel Xeon processors in our range of dedicated servers as they deliver superior performance with great energy efficiency compared to many rival processors.

RAM

Details the amount and type of memory installed in your server.

The more memory your server has, the more capable it is at handling demanding tasks with ease. You should pay close attention to how much memory you might need if your server will be hosting multiple virtual machines or managing heavy database-driven apps.

Memory not used directly by the OS and applications will often be used by the OS as a cache, so over-specifying memory can often have a beneficial effect on performance.

ECC (Error Correcting Code) memory provides protection against data corruption by checking data for errors and correcting these errors before they affect your application.

Hard Disk/SSD

This details the number and type of disk.

Hard disks are rated by size measured in gigabytes (GB) or terabytes (TB) and performance measured in RPM at either 7.2K, 10K or 15K RPM, the faster the RPM the better the performance however faster drives tend to sacrifice capacity.

Drives are available to the following capacities:

SSD drives are rated by size in gigabytes (GB), read & write performance in megabytes per seconds (MB/s) and input output operations per second (IOPS).

All SSD drives used on our servers are rated for a maximum of 550MB/s Read & 450Mb/s write and up to 90,0000 IOPS.

SSD drives vastly outperform hard disk drives in all areas, unless large amounts of storage are required SSD drives are the obvious choice for any server.

It should be noted that in the past SSD drives had a finite life span based on the number of data writes (known as drive wear), while drive wear still exists modern drives are capable of writing massive amounts of data without any adverse effects, far exceeding the life span of a typical hard disk.

Port Speed

Port speed defines the maximum speed the server is capable or transferring data at and is available at either 100Mbit or 1Gbit.

Servers with a 1Gbit connection are capable of handling more traffic as well as uploading and downloading files faster.

CPU Cores

This is the number of physical CPUs cores within a server, each CPU core is capable of one operation at a time (also known as a thread) and the more CPU cores the more concurrent operations (threads) can be performed by the server.

The number of cores is extremely important for webservers, databases and virtualisation that often require the server to perform numerous operation simultaneously without slowing down.

CPU Threads

Some CPUs use a technology called hyper threading, this allows a single core to perform two operations simultaneously, while not as efficient as a physical core this second thread provides an additional boost in overall CPU performance.

Operating systems installed on servers within hyper-threading enabled will see twice as many CPU cores as there are physical cores.

CPU Speed

CPU speed is measure in GHZ, the faster the GHZ the quicker the server can perform any single operation.

For servers that have low traffic or are running applications that are not multiple threaded then a high CPU speed is recommended however for most server operation where many simultaneous operations need to be performed the number of CPU cores is often a more important factor and have a greater overall effect on performance.

Where very high performance is required, for example heavy database work a server with both a high CPU speed and large number of CPU cores is recommended.

CPU Cache

The CPU cache provides an area of memory for the CPU to store frequently requested operations, the larger the cache the more operations that can be stored allowing for greater overall CPU performance.

RAID

RAID's primary function is to provide redundancy in the event of disk failure, all our RAID levels allow for your server to sustain a minimum of one disk failure without resulting in data loss or outage.

RAID does this by either mirroring data to a secondary disk (RAID 1 and 10) or distributing data between multiple disks (RAID 5, 6).

All RAID levels also offer some level of performance boost by allowing a server to read data from multiple disks simultaneously essentially doubling or even tripling data read speeds.

Servers with hardware RAID controllers are recommended for virtualisation.

RAID Cache

The RAID cache acts as an extremely fast storage area used to cache data reads which greatly increases I/O performance.

As mechanical disk drives are still significantly slower than other server subsystems, they can often become a bottleneck in many situations as the operating system waits for reads to complete before it can move onto other tasks.

By employing cache, the OS can read directly from the extremely fast cache memory allowing it to continue with other operations thus in many instances eliminating this bottleneck.

We don't expect you to pay for server monitoring elsewhere, which is why we include it free with all dedicated servers. Our server monitoring solution constantly monitors your server's uptime, performance, network connectivity and available resources.

All dedicated servers come with 2 IPv4 addresses free of charge. We also offer additional IPv4 addresses for a small fee (justification required).

IPv6 is also supported and addresses can be provided free on request.

Hardware Firewall

While all servers come with a software firewall installed our range of hardware firewalls provide a greatly enhanced level of protection.

These are not like traditional ‘dumb’ firewalls, our firewalls intelligently inspect and classify each incoming data packet and apply a set of dynamic rules allowing our firewalls to instantly re-act to an attacks providing you with a level of advanced protection never seen before including:
