  • Installatron to Replace Fantastico on new eUKhost Servers

EUKHOST has started offering Installatron script installer on our new shared/reseller hosting server. Installatron's powerful, easy to use user-interface gives you and your users the ability to install and upgrade a growing collection of web applications at the click of a button.

Installatron Plugin has some unique features

    1] UNIVERSAL PLUGIN
Installatron is a control panel plugin for these web hosting control panels:

    cPanel/WHM
    DirectAdmin
    Plesk Panel (Linux/UNIX]
    Plesk Panel (Windows]
    LxAdmin
The Installatron system is capable of being added to any hosting control panel system.

    2] Zero Maintenance
Application installers and upgraders are automatically downloaded to the server each night by a crontab process, reducing server maintenance to zero. Non-application updates utilize three release branches -- edge, release, and stable -- which stagger changes and additions to limit the chance of service interruption for users.

    3] Fast Application Updates
Installatron admin are regularly updating Installatron's application installers as new versions are released, with preference given to critical security releases and the most popular applications. Any updated application installers and upgraders are automatically downloaded to your server each night by a crontab process.

4] Complete Solution: The Full Application Lifecycle
Users can browse the web applications available for installing via Installatron, find information about each application and links to homepages, documentation, online demos, FAQs, and support forums.

5] Automatically Import Existing Installed Applications new!
Installatron's new Converter locates and imports installed applications from the current versions of Fantastico, Plesk Power Pack, cPAddon Scripts,CPSkins Auto-Installer Pro, and CPSkins PSA-Installer Pro. Additionally, Installatron's Import Wizard imports manually-installed applications, or applications installed by auto-installers not supported by Converter.

    6] Install Anywhere
Install applications to any location within the HTTP and HTTPS directories of all domains, sub-domains, and addon-domains. This includes the root-directory and any sub-level directory. You can even install inside HTTP Password Protected directories.

    7] My Applications Manager
Users can view their installed applications, link directly to the website and its administration tool, view its files and database, and view information about the installed application. Installed application can be upgraded, backed up, and uninstalled.

    8] Backup and Restore
Users can backup their installed applications at any time, and even restore a backup to its original "live" location.

    9] New Version Notification
Users can receive notification emails when new versions of their installed applications becomes available

    10] New Version Upgrading

If you would have chosen Softaculous your list of install scripts would have been doubled plus some more. It's what I use myself instead of Fantastico

I am not sure if customers need so many scripts. I have hardly seen customers using more than a dozen of scripts.

Lets see what other members have to say?

i rarely use Fantastico in the first place.. but from what i've seen in that list, there is more than enough choice.. WordPress, PHPbb (although I use Vbulletin myself), Coppermine, Zencart.. what more do you need? lol

        Nice one EUK.

Not much difference though. Additional 10 scripts are free with Softaculous compared to Fantastico and 2 compared to Installatron.

You cannot compare Fantastico with Softaculous Free edition since you pay a license fee for Fantastico. That license is more then the paid version of Softaculous. Now you see that you have to compare 50 scripts against 138 scripts.

Besides that, I found that it often takes a long time before Fantastico installs the most recent version of supported scripts while I see more regulary updated versions in Softaculous. Also very short after a script update is available. Only then it becomes interesting for clients to start using Softaculous or any other auto installer.

Dennis, I have never used Softaculous which is having so many built-in scripts but I am not sure if all of then have real value to use and are genuine enough. May be am wrong .. but i am fan of Fantastico

I think we will go ahead with Softaculous. Timely updates are more important for us as it helps in preventing hacking of websites due to vulnerable code.

Thank You Lance, Jack, Harry and Dennis.

                        Hi Steven,

As far as I know, it is possible to run Softaculous & Fantastico side by side on one server. Perhaps some one from the Technical team could confirm that for you. You can update here on the forums or submit a ticket and request the installation on your server.

You can run multiple installers, though you may have to pay a seperate fee for the licensing of eg installatron

If you want to continue with Softaculous I would recommend to remove Fantastico even thought they can run side by side.
But why running them both? Anything that is not needed but still there requires your attention.

If my memory serves me right the below shell command was enough to remove Fantastico from my system:
                            Code:
                            /usr/local/cpanel/bin/unregister_cpanelplugin /usr/local/cpanel/bin/fantastico_de_luxe.cpaneladdonmodule
But check this to make sure there are no left over files:
                            Code:
                            rm -rf /var/netenberg/fantastico_de_luxe/
                            rm -rf /usr/local/cpanel/whostmgr/docroot/cgi/fantastico/
                            rm -rf /usr/local/cpanel/3rdparty/fantastico*
                            rm -rf /usr/local/cpanel/base/frontend/*/fantastico
                            rm -f /usr/local/cpanel/base/frontend/x/cells/fantastico.html
                            rm -f /usr/local/cpanel/base/frontend/x/cells/cpanelplugin_Fantastico_De_Luxe.html
                            rm -f /usr/local/cpanel/whostmgr/docroot/cgi/addon_fantastico.cgi
The first line, /var/netenberg/ should be replaced with whatever directory you installed the Fantastico master files to, for example:
                            • /home/netenberg/
                            • /opt/netenberg/
                            • /backup/netenberg/

If the Fantastico icon still appears in your cPanel skins after uninstalling Fantastico, try updating the cache:
                            Code:
                            /usr/local/cpanel/bin/rebuild_sprites --force
I'm sure that if you submit a support ticket with the request to remove Fantastico for you, that they are happy to help you.
And I'm also sure that you'll love Softaculous
