    Fox News' Twitter Account Hacked

So, did everyone hear about Fox News' Twitter account being hacked? I am surprised it didn't cause more of an uproar as someone was "reporting" the assassination of President Obama! And it actually went on quite a while before anyone even noticed it!

Ohh that's really sad or rather interesting to know about what happened, but I think this will only help Twitter improve their security..

I heard about that...quite funny that it got hacked but then again I think the FBI/law enforcement agencies are probably certainly interested in tracking these hackers down for what they posted.

I've always been a little Leary of sites such as that, FB included. I know of some that have had their accounts hacked and then had viruses sent out to all their 'friends' but you would think it'd be hard to hack an account such as Fox News?

My guess is that whoever was in charge of that account was slacking that day. Obviously so, because they didn't even see what was being written on it while under their watch.

Exactly, the viruses spread by linking the videos/images to certain shortened URLs, such as bit.ly etc & then cause unknown damage. I'd request all of the desktop users to download & install a good copy of Microsoft Security Essentials from the following link to protect your computer from any such online threats & in realtime

It can be one of the reason, but what if everything was done within few seconds & in business hours.. damage done was damage done

Quite shocking - as has been said poor password policies and too wide an access to the password within the organisation are usual suspects.

The Secret Service are investigating now as it involves the President.

I doubt that any arrests are going to be made in this. It's not illegal to post false reports of the President being dead. They will say they are going after it, but is anything going to happen? Doubt it...

I think that though this is obviously not funny what was posted, it is pretty comical this is done to FOX News, which is the news company in the US that is anti Obama.

I'm not completely sure they'll be able to get away without charges. If it had been in the UK they would be able to charge them under the Computer Misuse Act and Theft Act which I'm sure there will be equivalents of in the US. Computer Misuse Act for gaining unauthorised access to a computer system and the Theft Act for making of a false instrument (someone in the UK was charged with this in a test case after obtaining/cracking a password to a system they had no right to access).

Also, there are specific offences a criminal can commit against the President - it may come under one of these?

Yes, charges can be filed at the very least for hacking, if they can discover who did it.

Whether charges can be filed due to the content depends upon exactly what was said. If some fool attempts to follow through on the false reports, it will go all the worse for the hackers.

I'm sure this makes a bigger headache for the folks who sift through internet postings for potential threats. They'll have lots of posts on this topic to wade through.

One thing I could see them doing would be saying that the posts were inciting other people to harm the President or that it was a threat against the President. It'd be pretty hard to get them convicted of these things but, then again, the President and the Secret Service can do anything .
