Microsoft and Nokia rumoured to hold event mid August

If this rumour is true, then perhaps this will be the introduction of the first Nokia Windows Phone 7.5 smartphone. As most will know, Nokia announced early this year that they will be abandoning the Symbian platform (for smartphones) and going for Microsoft's Windows Phone platform as the flagship OS for their future smartphones, however they won't be fully abandoning Symbian for many years and will continue to support devices that are shipping with Symbian. In fact, as far I last heard, they will be continuing to sell low-end Symbian handsets especially in less-developed countries.

What do you think about the Nokia-Microsoft-Windows Phone agreement?

Microsoft and Nokia have been hyping their partnership to make phones based on Windows Phone 7 for several months. Now it looks like the two companies will be holding a joint press event later this month where we could get some more info on what we can expect from this unusual pairing. The Unwired web site reports that the two companies are teaming up to hold a party on August 17 at GamesCom, the massive games convention in Cologne, Germany.

It's interesting that Nokia and Microsoft are using GamesCom to hold an event that will almost certainly yield more info about Nokia's upcoming Windows Phone 7 line-up. Microsoft is clearly thinking that the upcoming "Mango" update for Windows Phone 7 in general, and Nokia in particular, will have features that will be attractive to gamers.

Add Microsoft and SKYPE's tie up they are going to have a large customer base. Imagine their marketing team went through a lot to get this done. SKYPE has a online presence and a majority of people i know use SKYPE. So MS has a platform to further get into the mindset of customers. They are being aggressive in their new product launches I like what I am seeing in SQL Server Code Name "Denali"

As far as the Symbian OS for phones I find it the easiest to use. The amount of times I see a guy upgrade his phone OS and loose his contact book you know who you are.

FYI I think this is NOKIA last gasp attempt at survival. The Android did them in good.

    Thanks,
    Ray

I'm not sure...I think Nokia may have a chance with Windows Phone. If I was looking for a smartphone I'd certainly consider buying a Nokia Windows Phone smartphone because Nokia is known for their quality hardware, albeit with slightly less crafted software (Symbian OS). I think many people that have old Nokia phones and see new Windows Phone Nokia smartphones may buy it because a lot of people that own Nokia phones have only ever usually bought Nokia phones before and so may primarily consider the new Nokia smartphones that should be coming out this year with Windows Phone.

If Nokia can offer the reliability of their hardware with a STABLE MS OS then I think it will be a great phone. If MS throws out its usual half assed software for a live beta test like they have done in the past then you can kiss Nokia goodbye.

Symbian OS wasnt that bad an OS. It is pretty easy to use in contrast to a Droid (alcatel) that I just used. Only time will tell if they can pull it off.

I read on some website that Nokia's CEO promised to stick to Symbian through 2016. I think it's sad to see Symbian go, as I really liked this operating system. Seeing how I don't like Android and iOS, and I'm not too fond of Blackberry's QUERTY phones, my only two choices seem to be Windows Phone 7 and HP's WebOS...

Windows Phone 7 seems pretty good - I've tried it myself (albeit only for a few minutes lol).
