  • Google's warning for “intrusive interstitials”

Google warns “intrusive interstitials” and will start cracking them down from 10th January 2017. Google says that these type of advertisements can cause problems as mobile screens are smaller. Google will penalize them by lowering the ranks on search engines. This is a message for websites having such advertisements and to take necessary steps to remove such ads.

The type of interstitial ads showing a popup that conceals the main content, either instantaneously after the user navigates to a page after the search results, or while they are viewing the page could be penalised.

Google has tried this before as well in September 2015. It said that it will be lowering websites that show full page advertisements promoting users to download mobile applications. But this will be one step further punishing all kinds of pop-up adverts.
