140 characters to 10,000 characters for Direct Messages (twitter)

Twitter has decided that the word limit for direct messages (DMs) to be increase from 140 characters to 10,000 characters. What do you have to say about this?

It seems to be a good move by twitter to increase the word limit for DMs up to 10,000 characters. There are some people who might send spam messages. So this is something that may become irritating.

      Hi,
I believe it’s a neat move and other social media platforms already have the this feature with vast character limit.

Twitter is not able to make huge money from some time now. The increase in the word limit for DM is a sign that Twitter is adapting itself to the change. This is a nice strategy for twitter let us see whether it will be effective or not.

Character limit increase only for the direct messages may not be sufficient as other social networking websites offer more characters even for posts. Twitter is a good platform, but at times I have felt restricted due to the 140 word limit in the post. Change in the word limit for DM may be a sign that very soon, even in posts the word limit may change.

A thing to notice is that as soon as Dick Costolo the CEO Twitter stepped down all of a sudden the microblogging site announced many changes. Yes, it is a matter of survival, but whether these changes could really work can be understood only after it is applied and how the users would respond to these changes.

Has this already started? I was actually quite happy with leaving it at 140. Keep it short and sweet, and get your point across quicker.
