  • What is Private cloud storage & How to Set it up?

Private cloud storage is increasingly being loved by organisations. It has become one of the best alternative for businesses for existing methods of offering shared storage. However, most of the time there is confusion regarding what actually a private cloud storage is. Private cloud storage is mostly confused with pools of virtualised storage provisioned manually to users. However, the setup doesn’t have the attributes required to qualify as a private cloud storage environment.

Cloud computing is a model for enabling convenient, on-demand network access to a shared pool of computing resources that can be configured. They can be provisioned and released with minimal management effort or interaction of the service provider.

Private, or internal, cloud storage is very different from simply provisioning LUNs from a pool of storage arrays.

    Private cloud storage Setup requires:

Elasticity, the ability to scale up or down on demand
Automated management, which is the rapid provisioning and decommissioning of resources
Multi-tenancy, or support for multiple clients, with segregation by security and performance
Reporting and billing, with full disclosure on resource usage and costs
