Multiple Addresses pointing to same website?

    Hi,

I'm sure this is answered somewhere on your site but I couldn't find an answer in the forums so I wanted to double check before signing up...

Is it possible to have different URL's all pointing to the same site - e.g. so that mysite.co.uk and mysite.com both go to my website? I've read up on addon domains but I'm still not 100% on the actual procedure.

I'm looking at shared hosting and would also be registering both domains through you...

    Many thanks,
    Max

    Hello Max,

    Welcome to eUKhost community forums.

You can indeed host multiple domain names, all pointing to the same site with the help of Parked domains feature within cPanel control panel. Using this feature, you can set up a domain name that you own to point to another domain name.

For example, by parking mysite.co.uk on top of mysite.com, all visitors for mysite.co.uk will be able to view mysite.com page instead.

Yes hosting multiple domains on the single account is possible. With Linux Shared Hosting EUKHost gives privilege to host unlimited domains. Domain Parking is a great feature. I think redirecting the domain name is same as domain parking. Am I right Ryan?

No, these are two different features. I will try and explain:

Domain Parking will allow you to paste a domain over a domain with all the transparency. If we park abc.com on xyz.com, then the browser will not change the URL for any of parked domains.
          Eg:
          xyz.com/contact.htm

          can also be browsed as
          abc.com/contact.htm

Where as in "Domain Redirect" abc.com will redirect all the request to xyz.com and the browser will change the domain from abc.com to xyz.com.

It recommended to use a 301 redirect instead of parking the domain. Since either of parked domains are considered as "Duplicate Content" in search engines.

            hey...

is the 'parked domain' feature exclusively used for eukhost services? since 'parked' in the domain industry has an entirely different meaning.

what this seems like is actaully 'domain forwarding' or domain pointing in layman terms while hiding the URL is also called URL masking which you can enable if you do not want the destination url to be visible.

Parked domain feature on our hosting plans refers to 'Parked Domains' function within cPanel control panel.

Parked Domains (Domain pointers) allow you to "point" or "park" additional domain names to your existing hosting account. This will allow users to also reach your website when entering the "parked" or "pointed" domain into their browsers.

oh ok.. so it has nothing to do with SEO and parking.

Parked domain feature in cPanel is different from Domain Name Parking. With Domain Name Parking, one can earn money from his/her domains' natural traffic. The idle domain is used to display relevant advertisements, every time a user clicks on one of the advertisements, the domain owner earns money.

With URL Forwarding, someone accessing a domain name is routed to a different domain name/URL while in case of a parked domain, the domain name/URL entered in the browser remains the same but displays the content of the main domain name.

Now, it is bit confusing. Does it mean that Redirecting the domain is same as Domain Forwarding?

Domain Redirect is the standard method for domain forwarding. When the visitor types in the domain name they are redirected to the web server that the actual page is hosted on.

Yes, they both are same but different terms used in different control panels, Redirect in cPanel and Forwarding in Plesk. And they both will change the domain name in browser to the main domain.

                              Thank you Ryan and Martin!
EUK forum is quite supportive and I get all my doubts cleared here.
I'm sorry for 'n' number of questions, however one more question about the domains allowed on your Windows plan. Does the number of domains (suppose 20 domains) allowed also include Parked Domains, Addon Domains, Domain Redirect?
