    Please explain different hosting types....

I am hearing about all different types of hosting, but I honestly don't know the difference. The main one I hear about these days is: The Cloud. But what does that mean? Or VPS, or shared, for that matter....

A Cloud Server is a Virtual Machine which is created on a dedicated server which is a part of a Cluster of servers i.e. a Cloud. Cloud servers are created on this Cloud using a hardware virtualization application. This hardware virtualization application is responsible for the individual presence of each Cloud server. Cloud server has it's own disk space, RAM, CPU resources and bandwidth allotment due to this application. The Cloud servers on a Cloud are managed in such a way that each Cloud server offers 100% uptime guarantee.

Thank you for the useful information and the reference links Catherine.

@Caboodle - From an end users perspective, choosing any of the affordable web hosting packages offered by Eukhost would largely depend upon your website requirements such as bandwidth, diskspace, OS platform, databases etc. If you wish to achieve 100% uptime for your website, there can be no other solution than Cloud Hosting. If you are skeptical about it and would like to try out its performance and features, you may opt for a Shared Cloud offering and then later upgrade to a Cloud.

        Shared Hosting
In Shared hosting the website is hosted on a server that is shared by other customers. Here the hosting company will be the one to manage and monitor the server providing what it takes to make sure all is up and running always.

        Dedicated Web Hosting
In dedicated hosting you are allowed to rent an entire server and use it all by yourself. Here you are also given access to all the resources, providing you the ability to host more than one website
Dedicated hosting is designed to give a better form of hosting as this gives the customer more reliable hosting service.

        Virtual Private Server (VPS)
VPS is the small form of dedicated server. VPS is also similar to the shared hosting services, as in VPS also multiple websites operates on a single server, but there is a one phenomenal difference between shared hosting and VPS hosting. The client of VPS hosting can run their own operating system.

        Cloud Hosting
Cloud hosting let us use and access of multiple server-based computational resources via a digital network. All the user using Cloud hosting can access the server resources using a computer, netbook, pad computer, smart phone, or other device. In cloud computing, applications are provided and managed by the cloud server and data is also stored remotely in the cloud configuration. Users do not download and install applications on their own device or computer; all processing and storage is maintained by the cloud server. The cloud hosting can be said to be the type of hosting in which one has access to an entire network of servers, all of which “flow” into one another.

If we get a dedicated web host, do we get actual physical access to the server? And are we responsible for taking care of the server, like if it breaks down do we have to repair it?

Even if you choose a dedicated server, you can't access it physically as it's located in the datacenter and you can only access it via a remote computer using the login details of the server as long as you have internet connection. As we offer fully managed and monitored servers, if anything happens to the server, we will take care of it and the server will be bought back online asap.

The kind of access you are talking about is only available if you opt for a Colocation Service where you own the server hardware and colocate it to a third party datacenter infrastructure. There you would need to manage your own server, if it encounters a physical damage you need to fix it on your own. Only in this case you are allowed to gain physical access to the server. But believe me, it'd be a headache to you. Instead, I would recommend you to opt for a fully managed hosting server. With it you do not have to worry about the hassles that are involved as everything is taken care by the hosting provider.

Some of the Co-location hosting providers will take care of your hardware and will inform you about the hardware failure, if any. They may also replace the hardware for you if you provide them with the hardware or pay for it so that they can arrange it but then again, the time taken for all this process is too much and will result into a huge loss if things do not fall into place. Therefore, choosing a fully managed server from a reliable hosting provider is always recommended.

That's great. If a failure occurred due to the user's fault, would you still be responsible for taking care of it? Would there be any additional cost for that?

As the users do not have access to the hardware of the server, users cannot be responsible for it's failure. Therefore, if the hardware of the server fails, we will take care of it and users aren't charged for it.

That's great. So basically if we screw something up, you guys take care of it? Why would anyone even want to own their own server if they aren't renting it out?

Our technical support dept will assist you if you face any sort of technical problems due to the server hardware or applications installed by us. Some of the companies prefer to have their own hardware as they feel that it's a cost effective solution and they can purchase the hardware due to the availability of enough financial resources which is required to purchase the hardware.

@WeRollin Well, there are many such customers who owns their own server to place it in a co-location center. Using the co-location service allows clients to share the data center infrastructure that offers client’s more time and cost savings. Also, along with this advantage, if carries a disadvantage ie. if the maintenance of the server is not outsourced, the client has to send his expert to visit the data center physically and perform the server maintenance. Hence, to get rid of such things most of the people makes the right choice and opt for a fully managed dedicated server offered by eUKhost.

Thank you for explaining that. I would never consider a "co-location center". I trust you guys to manage my servers, since I have read all these excellent testimonials. It seems there is no one who says anything bad about this company!
