Disk Space Usage - what is Other Usage?

    Hi,

Is there a list anywhere that explains exactly what 'Other Usage' is? We are trying to work out why the 'Other Usage' on an account is so high. We need to know which directories to check, thanks.

Hi there... Do you mean "Other" that shows under cPanel Disk Space Usage ? This includes the hidden files/directories OR the files/directories under the cPanel users ownership outside the root directory of the cPanel account.

PM me the domain name for which you wish to check the disk usage. I will check and let you know.

      Hi Cristiano,

Thanks for the pointer. I was able to use the find command to locate all files/directories owned by that account and now I understand the 'Other Usage' figure.

If you have tried options above & still face issues with the disk usage, I will suggest you to initiate a chat and discuss this with support technician.

I am not able to locate your account with the email address you have used for forum signup.

              Hey,
If you use cPanel, you can use the disk space tools inside your account to see exactly which directories are using your storage. That way you can figure out what's using it.

                Hi,

Certain files, such as .htaccess or .cache/.cpanel etc, which have an extension of a preceding DOT (.) are termed to be hidden & they along with their usages aren't displayed in the file manager interface.

Due to the nature of storing files electronically, most files occupy slightly more disk space than their actual size. For example, a 300 byte file may occupy 4 kB of actual disk space. As a result, you may find some discrepancies between data in the File Manager feature & the Disk Space Usage feature.

The disk space usage information contained in this feature does not indicate how much space the directory itself uses. It only displays disk usage information about the directory's contents. Typically, directories themselves occupy a negligible amount of disk space. The figures contained in the Disk Space Usage feature may not reflect recent changes in your account's disk space.

As suggested by Cristiano above, please update us with the account details & we'll get this simplified for you

                  Cpanel change skin

                  Hi,

Try following steps if you do not know what your current cPanel theme is.
                  Login to your cPanel account
Look at the URL in your browser. It would look somewhat similar to hosting.com:2082/frontend/x/index.html
cPanel theme name is everything after the "/frontend/", and before the next slash "/". In above example cPanel theme is "x". It could be "x2", "rvblue", etc.
Some scripts and tools will not even ask you for a cPanel theme / skin. They use some hard coded theme name, which may differ from the one you have installed on your hosting server, and script will not work. In that case you may edit script's code. Its simple. Just find "/frontend/" string in the script and replace theme value with the correct one.

                  Thanks and regards
