  • Luton is dead

Why is Luton server continually dying ? for a 1/2 a day yesterday I had to stop work as my sites are not available, and now it's happening again. I'm seriously getting fed up of this.

    Hi Ken.

There has been SYN flood attack on the server and hence it was inaccessible for a while.
We were aware about the issue and been trying our best to manage it but due to nature of DoS attack, it last longer and caused some downtime.

We apologize for the inconvenience caused to you and appreciate your patience in this regards.
As of now the server is stable and all the services are working fine.

            Re: Luton is dead

And again my websites fail as Luton is offline, enough now.
I'll begin preparations to move my sites to my own vps.

It was good while it lasted but these servers are 'under attack' too much lately and cannot be relied on.

                  Re: Luton is dead

My sites have been down for over 25 hours this week and guess what, down again now, its only three months ago that the same happened, can't work, can't earn and ready to slit my wrists! It would be good if when you know there has been an issue to try at least to contact us??? or is that a big ask??? Not sure how much more turnover can afford to lose due to this, Its been over a sodding week now - excuse me for being angry, its my livelyhood!

On the other hand I appreciate that you are trying to deal with ths but as some of the sites involved are businesses could there not be something done to protect our businesses a little better??? I can't get to admin and have orders need to go out today and I have been backed up for a wewek despite having much fewer sales than usual - no salary for me at the end of the month then!

                  Ok rant over!

Best is before found out it was a Syn attack I screamed at BT cos I thought it was a DNS issue :-O Hours and hours I have set constantly hitting sodding refresh this week so I could get my orders out :-O

Well no one from Luton about probably all working hard at keeping our sites safe but hidden..... but apparently loads of large hosting companies have been attacked :-O Why would anyone want to do this??? Is it not a criminal offence to attack servers, not that I understand any of it...........so I won't move away to another server cos they are also under attack,

Ok, so now I know my site won't be on any time soon, I shalt accept that my business is possibly in ruins and I shalt go buy a large bottle of Vodka!

                        Hello Anne,

We are fully aware of the SYN attack on the Luton server and our system administrators are working as fast as possible to contain the attack. An SYN attack is a kind of Denial of Service attacks where a flood of connections are hit to the server eventually causing the server to crash. Unfortunately, the law cannot prevent these kinds of attacks occurring and because in many cases these attacks originate from other countries, where UK law which prohibits these kinds of activities does not apply - even though many other countries have similar legislation.

Please accept our sincere apologies for the inconvenience Anne. I will personally get back to you once it is resolved.

                          Dear customers,

Our system administrators have now resolved the issue with Luton. It may take up to a few hours for your website to be accessible because the shared IP on Luton has been changed as a result of the SYN attack on the server You do not need to do anything on your end, you'll simply need to wait for DNS propagation to occur which may take up to an hour or two, or longer in some unusual circumstances. Once DNS propagation occurs, your website will be accessible again because it is resolving to the new server IP address.

                          Kindest regards,

                          Ben Stones.

                              Hi Anne,

Our senior system administrators have confirmed we are facing a DDoS on the Luton server. I'm not particularly happy to hear this either. Anne, if you provide me with your contact number I can call you to discuss your hosting with us because, to be completely honest with you Anne, you have faced too many problems. You can private message me your contact number and I'll call you to discuss this.

                              Kind regards,

                              Ben Stones.
