    What is Softaculous?

Softaculous is an auto installer that supports 176 scripts. These scripts cover almost all the uses that a customer may have on the internet. It allows the installation of the web applications with the click of a button. There are a wide range of applications available to be installed; they include web portals, content management, eCommerce solutions, polls, blogs, forums and much more. Softaculous also has the ability to take over the installations of the other auto installers. Softaculous also contains a backup feature that enables the backup of the installation anytime.

Your description of Sofataculous is very good and informative. I would like to illustrated the main advantages of Sofatculous:

    1. User friendly
    2. Less time consuming installation
    3. Huge number of scripts provided
    4. Capacity to install the Javascript libraries
    5. Ability to import the scripts that already installed manually
    6. Powerful backup of applications

Does this Softaculous also provide some easy upgrade system for new versions for installed applications, like Wordpress, Joomla etc? Is so, can that be managed to multiple clients same time, if I'm hosting 20 different sites with Joomla, or do I need to update them one by one?

Softaculous offers updates for Wordpress 2.9 and 3.0 and Joomla as well. However Softaculous updates cannot be implemented for multiple websites at the same time; the main reason behind this is that the updates can be performed only after logging into the cPanel. Therefore it is possible to upgrade one website at a time.

Do you know if softaculous can be used with migrated CMS sites, that are originally installed normal way, via FTP? Or does sites need to be installed with ST already in the beginning?

I don't think if there would be any problem with that. As softaculous is an application that holds various scripts which when installed on the server acts as individual softwares. Yes, there might be a difference in the versions that you've uploaded via. FTP. and the one that is included in Softaculous. Apart from that, I don't think if there should be any problem with that.
Whether you install a software/application via. FTP. or through the control panel (meaning softwares similar to Softaculous or Fantastico) they more or less does the same tasks.

The Softaculous auto-installer allows the installation of web applications with the click of a button. A wide variety of applications are available to be easily installed, including web portals, e-commerce solutions, content management systems, blogs, polls, forums and more. Softaculous can take over the installations of other auto-installers. Softaculous also has an easy-to-use backup feature, allowing for the backup of installations at anytime.

Is Softaculous superior to the Fantastico? Also, what do you think about the Enkompass control panel for windows from cPanel ?

Yes, Softaculous is indeed a better auto-installer in comparison to Fantastico as it allows the installation of many more scripts and is very easy to use.

Enkompass control panel for Windows did not get a lot of attention after some of the users tried it's demo and the reason maybe it's performance, however, I am not sure about it. You can try it's demo and decide if that works for you.

Is Softaculous a built in feature of cPanel? Why does cPanel provided by some hosting providers have Softaculous on it, while the some control panel of other providers has Fantastico?

It depends on the choice of the hosting provider which one to offer to its customers. Both of them can be added through WHM.

You might want to take a look at how its done, please visit the following link : How to Install Softaculous on Linux Dedicated Server ?

I'm puzzled, and may be missing something obvious, but, although I have seen many references to Softaculous (and even some to Fantastico), on my cpanel here, I have neither. I seem to have Installatron. What is the difference. and is it anything I should be concerned about?

That basically depends upon the web hosting provider whether to offer the entire tool or few selected tools. It may also vary between packages that are offered by the web hosting provider.

I assume that you aren't hosted with eUKhost as they do offer complete Softaculous with their cPanel no matter what package you choose.

Sorry, but your assumption is incorrect. I am with eUKhost, on the reading server, using the Gold hosting package, and I have been for 13 or so months now. For all that time, I have only ever had Installatron available, rather than Softaculous.

If this is somehow strange, where might I get it changed? Are there any others in the same situation?

Installatron was previously installed on our Reading Server. We had stopped offering Fantastico on the servers and had started offering Installatron until Softaculous was introduced.

I hope you would understand that in a shared environment, it is not possible to switch the installation scripts for all the customers. If you wish to use Softaculous, we would like to request you to kindly send an email from your registered email address to support[@]eukhost.com confirming that you wish to migrate your account to a Softaculous enabled server. We would then proceed with the migration after which you would be able to avail the benefits of Softaculous.
