Types of Data Center tiers-
1. Tier I- A Tier I data center has a single path for power and cooling and is typically used for small businesses or non-critical applications. It provides basic site infrastructure with limited protection against physical events.
2. Tier II- A Tier II data center has redundant capacity components to provide some level of fault tolerance. It has multiple power and cooling paths, but they are not concurrently maintainable. It provides better availability than Tier I and is suitable for small to medium-sized businesses.
3. Tier III- A Tier III data center has multiple active power and cooling paths, each capable of carrying the data center's capacity, with no single points of failure. It provides high availability and is suitable for large organizations that require 24/7 uptime.
4. Tier IV- A Tier IV data center has everything that a Tier III data center has, but with the addition of fault tolerance. It can withstand a single failure in any system or capacity component without disrupting operations. It provides the highest level of availability and is suitable for mission-critical applications, such as financial trading or emergency services.
Each tier has a different level of uptime, which is the percentage of time that the data center is operational and available. Higher-tier data centers have higher uptime requirements and are typically more expensive to build and maintain.
