    Linux server network monitoring using IPtraf

    Network Monitoring of your server can include many aspects like current traffic statistics, connections on various ports and related source and destination IPs. IPtraf is a very useful tool which does all this for a server admin.

    IPtraf includes following features:

    1. Minimalistic Graphical user interface on linux servers.
    2. IP Traffic Monitor
    3. General Interface Statistics.
    4. Detailed Interface Statistics
    5. Statistical Breakdown
    a. By packet size
    b. By TCP/UDP port
    6. LAN station Monitor

    IPtraf Installation Procedure on Cent OS:

    1. If you are using the YUM package manager then following command will do the job

    [email protected] [~]# yum install iptraf

    2. Press y and enter to start the install.

    3. You can confirm the installation by following command which will show the installation directory of the tool

    [email protected] [~]# which iptraf


    How to use IPtraf:

    1. Just type the iptraf and hit enter.

    [email protected] [~]# iptraf

    2. This will lead you to a graphical interface.

    3. The primary menu itself is very explanatory so you can carry on your server network monitoring voyage from here.
