    Hi,

The ports which BitTorrent or any other P2P applications use are mentioned below:
    Bittorrent:
    6881 to 6889

    Kazaa:
    1214

    eDonkey & Clones:
    4661 to 4672

    Winmx & Napster:
    6257
    6699

    Gnutella:
    6346

    eMule/eDonkey:
    5555
    4242
    2323
    6667
    7778
On how to block these ports on Windows, read these 2 articles:

How to configure TCP/IP Filtering in Windows Server 2003

If you have a hardware firewall, use these commands:
    class-map match-any P2P
    match protocol kazaa2
    match protocol bittorrent
    match protocol edonkey
    match protocol gnutella
    match protocol fasttrack
    ! !
    policy-map drop-P2P
    class P2P
    drop
    !
    interface FastEthernet0
!<usual config, plus the following two lines>!
    ip nbar protocol-discovery
    service-policy input drop-P2P
    interface Dialer1
!<usual config, plus the following two lines>!
    ip nbar protocol-discovery
    service-policy input drop-P2P
Or if you have a router which can be configured, have it run these DENY rules..
    kazaa - fasttrack clones
tcp from any to any 1214
udp from any to any 1214
    edonkey and clones
tcp from any to any 4661-4672
udp from any to any 4661-4672
    winmx and napster
tcp from any to any 6257
udp from any to any 6257
tcp from any to any 6699
udp from any to any 6699
    bittorrent
tcp from any to any 6881-6889
udp from any to any 6881-6889
    gnutella
tcp from any to any 6346
udp from any to any 6346
eMule is a clone of eDonkey
tcp from any to any 5555
tcp from any to any 4242
tcp from any to any 3306
tcp from any to any 2323
tcp from any to any 6667

To block the torrents, you need to open the specific ports on the server and disable all other ports. Doing this, the server will serve requests on the ports that are opened.

          Hope this helps

In this case I'd recommend using a proxy (Wingate or similar ones) or a software firewall (PIX / AVG) or why not directly block those specific applications in the Windows firewall if they are using any random port? Last option mentioned is much better & recommended..

You need to have the firewall turned on for it to block the ports/programs. Or a better option would be to install a 3rd party software firewall, such as Visnetic or Sonicwall or ZoneAlarm & configure it to block the programs directly
