  • Mysql root password missing ??

    Hello,

It is really an intense pain if you have mysql database and forget the root password, (it is not possible that one is careless about it ) and now trying to use different apps to find out.

Me too had this problem and thanks to mysql.com, I gone through the password reset process and changed the password.

Please visit the link below for password reset :

Hope, it will fix the problem.

    Cheers ..

Thank you robinson, but I couldnt figure out how can I recover plesk's mysql root password. As plesk has mysql running on 3306 & 8306 port.

Can you let me know how to go about recovering root password for 8306.

      Hi noobdroid,

This may help to recover the MySQL password.
In windows plesk there are two instances of MySQL running. One is listening on port 8306 used by plesk and other running on regular 3306 which stores the clients database. Now to retrieve the MySQL admin password of user mysql. Follow the below steps.
      1. Open command promt and run the below commands

      cd %plesk_dir%\mysql\bin
      mysql -P 8306 -u admin -pPLESK_PASSWORD psa
      select * from databaseservers;

The select command will show you the list of database servers added to plesk along with it’s admin/root username and password.

                Hello,

Plesk Stores all its config information in a Database called PSA.

In case you forget your MySQL Password, you need to access the PSA Database either by command line(if your good at) or GUI based application viz: Navicat for MySQL.

In case using command Line, follow the below given steps.

                1. Open Command Prompt. Go to MySQL Service directory which should be under your Plesk directory. E.g: "D:\Parallels\Plesk\MySQL\bin"

                Type: mysql -uadmin -p"your_plesk_password" -P8306

This will take you to mysql prompt "mysql>"

                2. You can list the databases by command "SHOW Databases;"

                3. Select the Database "psa" by command "USE psa;"

This will take you inside the psa DB.

                4. You need to open a Table named "databaseservers" where all the database Server information is saved.

To do so,type "select * from databaseservers"

This should open up the Databaseserver table where the password for MySQL Server is mentioned.

In GUI,you need to do the same,

                1. Create a connection to MySQL with port 8306 with user as "admin" and Password "your_plesk_password"

                2. Open the DB psa.

                3. Find and Open the Table named "databaseservers"

                and you are done.

Further, to reset the password, visit Here for Advance Password reset steps or follow the steps/link given by Robinson.

                Cheers

                Regards,
                Arnold.

Re: Mysql root password missing ??

Steps 1 & 2 didnt work as password was not there for obvious reasons. The link to advanced steps to reset password using skip grants table worked which I was looking for initially.

Thank you for providing the steps
