    .com domains in the future

While surfing some IT blogs, I've come across some speculations that the .com TLD will lose its dominance in the future, mostly due to the fact that mobile devices are taking over. Today's internet users are using mobile phones and tablets more and more to get connected to the internet. I wonder if .mobi will replace .com as the most popular domain...

Well, it is a fact that nowadays many users browse the internet using mobile devices mainly due to it's best feature i.e. mobility however, it's pretty hard to believe that .com domain will loose it's popularity as .com has been the preferred domain TLD ever since internet came into existence. Also, even if mobile sites are developed on .com domains, it does not make a difference to users. Infact, most of the users still prefer .com domain TLD.

I am always a fan of .com extension and I think it will still be dominating the internet in the future. It is the fact that more internet users are using mobile devices to get connected to the net, but it doesn't mean that .mobi will replace .com as the most used domain extension.

For the average web surfer, .com is synonymous to the web. Just think of how many times you hear people refer to "dot coms". Nevertheless, some of the other TLDs will catch on more than others and they do offer a much greater choice of domain names available.

I agree with you in that I don't think .com names will phase out anytime soon. There are still a lot of people that don't surf the web on their phones purely because they don't want to pay the extra cost to do so (especially in these hard times). Maybe .mobi will become more popular, but I don't foresee it replacing .com anytime soon.

People especially internet users are get used to .com already, and it is hard to switch from what you have got used to. I think .com TLD will still be ruling the internet world for years to come.

Definitely not. I don't think .mobi will outrun .com domains. Indeed the mobile market is expanding, but we will not reach that point.

Certainly, the .com domain name will not loose its hold on the internet market been a general TLD. It will sustain its popularity. whereas, .mobi domain names adds to the internet world an option to register the domain name if the .com domain is not available and can easily reach to the general public with the increase of mobile market.

.mobi is a cool TLD but I think it won't replace .com in the near future. Maybe .me will be on the that list for the best TLD in the future.
