created wiki - but do I need another name?

Following help and advice I have created a new Wiki which goes by the name of Teflpedia. The wiki has that name, but how do I get the URL to be something nice like teflpedia.com?

Do I need to buy that domain as well?

TEFL stands for "Teaching English as a Foreign Language".

    The Url is here:<s> http://bobmudford.net/mediawiki/index.php?title=Main_Page</s>

    Now Main Page - Teflpedia

Yes, you will need to buy that domain name.
*the name is available, so you'd better snap it up

OK, thanks for that. Just ordered it. I'll have to figure out later how to make that the URL for the Wiki. But now duty calls elsewhere.

I suppose you will need to add the domain teflpedia.com as an Add-on domain with the user name mediawiki Hosting and it would point to the directory under bobmudford.net.

Mmmm. You (or somebody else) couldn't expand on that could you?

I've got the teflpedia.com domain now and, somewhat to my surprise, the wiki is configured more-or-less as I want it - so now I want to try to give it a sexy short URL.

But I'm flying blind on the process and I really need a bit more explicit help from some kind person.

          Thanks in advance.

If you'd have responded to my last two PMs Bob, you might not have needed to ask these questions here!

              Hi Bob,
If you go into your cPanel account i.e. domain.com/cpanel. You will see half way down the page the "Domains" section. If you click on "Addon domain" this will allow you to add teflpedia.com. Enter the domain name in the first box, add a ftp username in the second one (it might do this for you) make the document root (3rd box): "public_html" without the quotes. Set a strong password or get cPanel to generate one for you (you won't need to use this at all so it can be something hard to remember) and then click Add Domain! This should get it pointing to your wiki although you may not see it working for a few hours due to propogation.

                Very sorry about that.

                Didn't notice. Apologies again.

I wouldn't worry about it Bob! I've missed PMs on here before as unless you have notifications enabled, it's only the little bit at the top!

Either way, my answer should hopefully solve your issue.

                        Hi Jonathan

                        You said:

But in the third box it defaults to "public_html/teflpedia.com". Should I accept this or edit it down to "public_html"?

OK - that's all fixed, with a LOT of help from Gadge. Thanks Gadge.
