How to Optimize a Dedicated Server ?

Currently, I have leased a dedicated web server from a hosting company, I won't speak the name of the company b'coz I don't want to spoil the reputation of that company. The server is getting slower and not giving good performance. Are there any special things that I can perform to optimize my server ? Since, its an unmanaged service, I can't ask them to optimize my server. I am confused where to start, or shall I outsource the work to a server management services ?

Well to be honest, though your hosting plan is unmanaged I think you should ask your hosting provider to optimize the server. And if they are ready then they know what to do to increase the performance of your dedicated web server. May I ask exactly what is the issue with your dedi-server. Is it taking high load ?

Thanks for quick response, SeanyG. I have checked and confirm, the CPU load is not much high and even RAM is not using any swap. Still I think that there must be something which can be optimized to boost the server performance. What kind of things the experts will check in my server ?

In the dedicated server, usually the experts check the processes and usage and make tweaks based on the server. I completely agree with you that optimizing is always a good thing to get better performance. However, I think that your web hosting company should configure your settings based on your server to get the best performance.

I would strongly recommend you to switching to managed hosting services, helps get rid off all such hurdles you know. You might want to pay a visit to the affordable web hosting packages offered by eUKhost.

I agree with Matt. You should definitely consider switching to eUKhost (if not now, at least in the future, after your current payment period expires). eUKhost offers remarkable dedicated servers that are, generally, at competitive prices, and their support is unequaled.

By the way, does that company have a customer support forum?
