Unlimited Disk Space and Bandwidth ?

A few days ago, I signed up with a good US based web hosting provider for unlimited package. After using it for a few days I installed a script to sell a few products, which ate some huge bandwidth and space. But, without any intimation the hosting company deleted my hosting account. I contacted them via phone and asked them about it, but there were no answers...

Is Unlimited Hosting real or does it has any limitations ? If its a fake thing, then why popular hosting providers are still selling unlimited packages ?

Unlimited resources like space and bandwidth obviously do not exist in web hosting business. The next time you come across any host advertising 'Unlimited' space and bandwidth, make sure you read their Terms & Conditions regarding unlimited usage as there is always a limit attached to such offers.

Yes, I think it's just a marketing gimmick. When a web hosting provider offers hosting packages with unlimited space and bandwidth, most possibly they are overselling their hosting resources.

Definately no such thing as unlimited space and bw though it looks fantastic when you are signing up.

In theory if it were true I could setup my own eBay type store for $5pm! If a company sells one with unlimited stuff you should knock them off of your list to buy anything from because they lie from the get go. That includes all the the big companies too which I wont name but we all know who they are.

There always is a cap set on the amount of resources that you can use, but inorder to attract customers, many companies would promote themselves as the one's who offer unlimited resources. But, practically its illogical. Noobs usually fall prey to such attractive offerings.
Its rightly said brian "If a company sells one with unlimited stuff you should knock them off of your list to buy anything from because they lie from the get go. "

well there are many companies which claim to provide Unlimited Bandwidth but I think its not possible because server memory, networking hardware and disk storage are physically limited.

Yes, absolutely it is better to pay some money and get a fixed amount of resources which you can use as per your requirements. Never fall into such marketing tactics.

funny you should mention this, i was looking at a websie called JustHost that claim unlimited space and bandwidth but when i enquired and read there TOC it says that you are only allowed to use 10% of system resources and if you go beyond that they have the right to close your account without notice.....

no such thing as unlimited and its wrong to advertise it.

You'd find a number of web hosting providers making a hype about the services and products they offer. Part of the marketing gimmick, its like a heard of sheeps, one starts others follow

yes exactly, i also agree with this that this is only marketing gimmick, unlimited bandwidth & disk space doesn't exist at all.

Whenever you have to deal with hosting providers that claim to offer unlimited resources, you should carefully read their Terms of Service, because there must be something in there about a type of limitation, either regarding the number of files you are allowed to host on your account, or the condition to not affect the server's performance...

Reading the fine print is very important in these cases.

Whatever happened to the Trade Descriptions Act...are they immune from this?

I still believe that unlimited disk space and bandwidth isn't true. If there's really one then I bet they only have less clients unlike other web hosting that have limited disk space.

Such unlimited web hosting concepts doesn't exists in the web hosting industry. I believe that it is just a gimmick played by web hosting companies to attract customers and make them sign-up. Even if a web hosting company says they really provide unlimited hosting plans, you must read their TOS very carefully, as you will find the limitations in their Terms of Service. Instead of regretting afterward it is better to opt for a web hosting plan that offers you a certain amount of resources that can be used freely.

If you are actually looking out for a scalable solution with next to unlimited resources, I suggest you to give a try to our eNlight Cloud Hosting & Computing platform. It has the capability to offer practically Unlimited Resources, there aren't any limitations over its usage. Moreover, you get the control to limit the resources yourself from the eNlight control panel. You can set or change the MAX values of RAM or CPU allocation to your virtual machine at any time. And, its a pay per use model, so you'd only be paying for the resources that the site has actually used.
