Service Models of Cloud Computing with Acronyms

Every day, as the cloud computing technology is spreading across the industries new acronyms and concepts are getting a rise. Usually, what we have heard until now is IaaS (Infrastructure as a Service), PaaS (Platform as a Service) and SaaS (Software as a Service) the three types of service models of cloud that we all use in business and in the IT industry. However, if you search the web you will find more types of service models which are unknown to us. Would love to see other service models of cloud and their purpose.

You also have NaaS- Network as a service where user usually uses the network/transport connectivity services of the vendor.
NaaS basically optimizes the resource allocations which consider the whole network and computing resources as a unified resource.

Re: Service Models of Cloud Computing with Acronyms

The ever evolving cloud technology has reached new horizons. It has been implemented in the functioning of the latest smart phones as well. This is because it is based on a clustered framework that makes sure that all the functions of the website are supported perfectly and enhances the efficiency. If you are looking ahead to create a full fledged website that provides the best of features then utilizing the cloud technology is the best option.

Re: Service Models of Cloud Computing with Acronyms

There are only three primary types of models in Cloud computing. The following image should help better understand this.

Now, it depends upon the organisation how they intend to make use of the technology to align with their organisational goals and requirements.

Re: Service Models of Cloud Computing with Acronyms

A few of other cloud’s service models are MaaS, C-Maas, CaaS.

Monitoring as a Service (MaaS) refers to advanced monitoring solutions. This allows businesses to remotely monitor the status of their networks, applications and services. Using data collectors and testing information about applications and environments.

Cloud Migration as a Service (CMaaS) is another of those new cloud service models that help companies migrate their physical servers to cloud solutions. This completes the process of server virtualization at a fraction of the time.

Communication as a Service (CaaS), something known as hosting media, allowing consumers to implement communication services such as VoIP, VPNs, PBX and unified communications. No high costs and the ease of hosting and infrastructure management. CaaS services typically provide basic telephony services and advanced options for the unification of communications, including video calls, Web collaboration, chat, real-time presence and instant messaging. These features can be offered by the seller from one or more remote locations, with security and availability in data centers.

Anything as a Service (XaaS) is the concept that allow to offer anything as a cloud service. The possibilities are limitless. Some of the quick examples are:

DaaS – Desktop as a Service
DBaaS – Database as a Service
ERPaaS - Enterprise Resource Planning as a Service
STaaS - Storage as a Service
SECaaS - Security as a Service
BPaaS - Business Processes as a Service
TEaaS - Test Environments as a Service
APIaaS - API as a Service

I completely agree that the SaaS, PaaS and IaaS are the only three original service models of cloud computing; however, as the time will pass the demand for cloud services will grow and so the number of services. It’s necessary for consumers to know their needs and understand the benefits they can gain from cloud-based services for their business.

Re: Service Models of Cloud Computing with Acronyms

Oh.. wow... Cloud computing is really getting vast day-by-day. Those are a lot of services create by vendors. But, in these three primary types of cloud computing service models which you are saying are SaaS, PaaS and IaaS, what things in these three service models are managed by the vendors and what things are managed by the customers?

Re: Service Models of Cloud Computing with Acronyms

In the traditional hosting, usually most of the things are managed by the customer. However, in the cloud service model case, the scenario is completely different. Such as:

Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) - the applications, data, runtime, middleware and operating system (OS) is managed by the customer; whereas, things like Virtualization, servers, storage and networking are solely the responsibility of the vendor.

Platform as a Service (PaaS) - the applications and data is managed by the customers; whereas, things such as runtime, middleware, operating system (OS), Virtualization, servers, storage and networking are completely managed by the vendor.

Software as a Service (SaaS) - all the things applications, data, runtime, middleware, operating system (OS), Virtualization, servers, storage and networking is totally managed by the vendor (cloud-based service provider).
