PHP is a free server side scripting language. Users have the capability of building it into the web servers such as Apache, it also offers the ability for generating dynamic web pages. Today, an increasing number of webmasters prefer using PHP rather than Perl due to its ease and simplicity.

Lately, I've seen less and less people using Perl. I was told on another forum that Perl is quickly becoming an outdated language and it's not worth trying to learn it anymore...
What other alternatives are there? Python? Ruby? Go! ?

I have a question for the more experienced php users: do you think php is better than Perl?
I know they're different, but - as far as the degree of difficulty is concerned - which one is easier to learn for a newbie?
