  • Testing for Flash

Is it possible to determine whether the user has Flash Player installed, and what level?

I would like to use more Flash, adding extra layers of functionality and design, but not to leave anyone out.

I would also consider HTML or Javascript, if anything works really well.

Something to bear in mind when you are thinking of using flash is that it does not have great accessibility compliance so usually a combination would be good (remember the splash pages giving an HTML/Flash option). Either that or wait for HTML5
Interesting, let me think on this....... to the think tank!

There are also scripts to determine whether flash player is installed and what version it is. As Ed says accessibility can be a problem but as long as you manually impliment your own accessibility features it is possible to comply with guidelines and use flash .
