Is Google +1 Better for SEO?

    Hi,
I've put +1 buttons on my sites and now i'm waiting (and hoping) that It makes a difference to Search Engine Optimization. Has anyone done this before?

    Thanks in advance

Google +1 button has been introduced by Google some time ago in order to make some improvements to the search engine results. It is basically similar to the Facebook's "Like" button which is used by Facebook users to show their positive reaction on the content. If the users on Google find some webpage to be useful, they can click on Google +1 button on the webpage which will increase it's chances to get good rankings for similar searches made in future.

It has been launched some time ago and hence not many website owners have noticed an improvement in site rankings and traffic due to it. However, you can add it and see if you notice any difference.

Considering that it is still in beta right now I would guess that no one really has the answer to this. Compared to other social sites I have used I have to say though, so far I am impressed.
I took a long vacation but I'm back!

I added the button a few month ago and I don't notice any improvement in my site and ranking either. I think it's just my site not getting so many clicks (votes?) yet though.

Well, I would like to say that this +1 button is just like recommending to Google friends about this search result with the respected keyword. We cannot say how much it contributes to search engine but we must assume it to be nothing as recommended. It might help Google algorithm in understanding how the results are satisfying the searchers. But for now no such has helped in SEO activities.

Yeah, I agree that it wouldn't help so much with your Search Engine Optimization. Moreover, this feature is vulnerable to abuse. You can create several accounts on Google and use the accounts to click the button on your website.

Despite Google Plus being in a beta stage, I have a strong feeling that Google would make use of the data (ie. user behavior) collected from it to determine the search results.

Can someone explain to me how this works? I honestly don't think I've seen it. It sounds like something worth trying. Anything you can do to try to boost your site is helpful.

That is true but with new stuff sometimes its tricky. Everyone wants to have the best site for their niche and sometimes new stuff like this is more of a trial and error type of journey.

Hmm...that's a good question. I don't think Google would take this into account in the concern it can be used for Search Engine Optimization cheating (but I'm no Search Engine Optimization professional so I wouldn't know - it's simply my opinion). The most important thing for your website is content and backlinks.

As Catherine said, it's like the 'like' button of Facebook. You click the button to tell other internet users that the webpage you '+1' is worth to visit. You need to have a Google account to click the button though.

However, it's only between your friends, though.

Eh... I don't know. It doesn't seem to be making any bit of a difference on my site. I really think that it was just sort of a waste. AT least it's in Beta and I didn't pay like thousands of dollars for access.

So you have to have a Google account in order to click the +1 button? Well, that's that... I don't have a Google account, so this feature is not for me.

Does anyone else beside me find the +1 button's design a bit ugly? I mean, it's kind of bulky and of an unpleasant simplicity...

I think it's only between Google accounts as far as I know. I don't think I'll use it personally though I think it's a great feature nonetheless.
