As far as sites ebay and Amazon are concerned these are big players that have invested huge sums in marketing and I doubt they rely on SEO for their leads.

To gain popularity like the Big Bosses 'Ebay' & 'Amazon', one needs to fork out a big amount of money (rather unwillingly) & have that spent on TV commercials, massive AD campaigns, road shows, rotating banners on endless websites & they've hired a large network of content writers, plus many more things, such as mouth publicity, free gifts, etc... These BIG players have n number of investors for this purpose & their stocks never dwindle once they're into business..
