Please share some reliable free SEO tools to measure backlinks and reputation of a site. I have found many but it is hard to differentiate between them to find the right tool.

Alexa tool is a good tool though you can check the full status of your website.
Google adwords keyword tool, Google analytic tool and webmaster tools are the best Google SEO tool.

There are various free and paid tools to check backlinks and other information about a website. You check out backlinlwatch or Ahrefs for backlinks. SeoMoz (now MOZ) is also a very good resource for getting information about a website.

The best tool for for getting information about your site is Google webmaster tools.

For information about other websites and checking their backlinks you can use MOZ or Opensiteexplorer which are very good.

Opensiteexplorer offered by Moz is indeed an exceptional tool, but it is free for few results i.e. 200 links pointing to a page, wherein only the initial 5 results would describe the Anchor text, DA & PA or the referring page. Inorder to use the full potential of it you are required to have a paid subscription which costs $99 a month.

Free tools always limit the features. But, on the whole SEM rush and Ahrefs are the best in business. Spyfu is also worth the mention
